Hi folks,Thanks to the efforts of a clever individual at x-plane.org Joan has created a plug-in that seems to cure the horrendous winds-aloft issues present within X-Plane. Xplane NOAA GFS forecast weather 1.0rc2http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=15453Its not perfect and I think Joan is planning to optimize things a bit more (especially for VATSIM users) but I am flying high altitude (FL330) as I type this and the wind direction is correct...although the speed is somewhat lower than expected. But a huge relief from the constant 100kt winds encountered flying north or west using default XP real weather METAR interpretation.I am using this plug-in with XP9.7 and it should be ok in XPX too.Give it a shot and see what you think. Pay attention to the install instructions as it does require some XP-specific python downloads.CheersTed

Hey, just finished a flight in XPX with this, downloaded about 2 hrs ago. It's harder on the fps it seems than default (real) weather. The winds aloft never seemed to change until I got real close to my destination. I can't find a good website that gives winds aloft data, was trying to confirm the data along my route. I only flew to 15,000ft, maybe that's why the change was minimal. I think it said it was feeding the sim 4 cloud layers, maybe that's why the fps hit seemed more. One was 3, the other was 4, cloud layers and wind layers. How many cloud layers does the default weather produce (show), using real weather??Overall it seems to work fine, need to do some more testing.GlenEdit: Hmm, does NOAA only cover the U.S. with regards to winds aloft?? Can't find any data for Canada.Edit2: It doesn't seem to be working to well at my end after further testing. It's working, but the winds are wrong in direction and speed. I tried in both XP9 and XPX. Just tried in XP9, and the default weather was fairly close, showing the snow storm I'm currently getting, as soon as the NOAA weather had finished downloading the winds switched to the wrong direction, and the snow changed to rain, makes sense as the temperature was about 10deg celsius too high from NOAA. Think I'll leave this alone until some other people respond with their findings.Here's some data from a flight I just tried from CYYZ - KBOS.In the first screen shot is the winds aloft data that should have been present, if I read it correct, at Buffalo (bottom line) at 24000ft winds should be 246deg at 36knots.In the second shot is what was showing in XPX at 26,000ft (Buffalo to the right), 47deg at 32knots. Speed is close, direction is way off.
