February 29, 201214 yr whenever i click on free flight it stays there for a second freezes then crashes.I'm not sure what you did here. Did you click on free flight on the left side of the startup menu and it crashed or did you select free flight then clicked on the Go Fly button? Menu crashes are common and indicates (to me) that your system hardware or driver is not installed properly. When you hit the Fly button, that means scenery and aircraft are starting to load and that is probably an addon problem. Make sure your video card drivers are properly installed by uninstalling them, running a free registry cleaner, then reinstalling the drivers. You did not indicate what type of system you have and what OS you are running but you should also run Windows update and make sure everything is up-to-date. Make sure you have the latest Microsoft.net installed (automatically installed with Windows 7) and the latest DirectX. You should also have Microsoft Visuals (MSV's) from 2005 to 2010 installed and up-to-date (thru the Windows Update program). You can look in your Add/Remove programs and see if the MSV's are all installed. Since you had the 'Exception code: 0xc0000005', this indicates your system had a memory access violation when FSX was calling the g3d.dll. Again, this could be a driver issue or a problem with your system bios settings for your installed memory. However, since this happens "exactly" when you click on free flight, it is most likely an installation or driver error. Here's an excellent old link to fixing Memory Access Violations - http://www.updatexp.com/0xC0000005.html. It's for XP systems but still revelant to the latest operating systems.Best regards,Jim
March 5, 201214 yr Author I click on the side menu bar and then i have a couple seconds until a crash. I can go to missions and change things and go anywhere it is just loading from the free flight menu.
March 6, 201214 yr I can go to missions and change things and go anywhere it is just loading from the free flight menu. This is confusing. Where is the crash happening? When you hit the Fly button and a screen pops up stating it is loading scenery, etc.? Or, when you hit the Free flight icon on the left side of the FSX setup screen and you are choosing an aircraft, choosing weather, choosing the place where you will start out the flight, etc. The g3d.dll was updated with SP2/Acceleration so make sure you have the 9/26/2007 version installed. Also, did you do what I suggested above - make sure MSV's and Microsoft.net are up-to-date? Uninstall video card drivers, run registry cleaner, then reinstall? All of this with UAC and any anti-virus program disabled? If you did all of that and you are still having this same crash, then your only option left is to completely uninstall FSX and all your addons, make sure all FSX related files and folders are removed, run a free registry cleaner, disable UAC and any anti-virus program, then reinstall everything (I know you stated you did this before and it didn't work but I want to make sure you did a cleaning after the uninstall and make sure you reinstalled it properly). When you reinstall, make sure you start up FSX BEFORE reinstalling any additional addon, FSX SP, or Acceleration. Also, many people have had success with installing FSX on another drive or location other than the default location. This way you can avoid the security measures implemented by Microsoft that sometimes cause individuals with UAC and any anti-virus program enabled during an installation. I personally have no problems with the default installation but you might try it if you reinstall. If you do this you can install FSX to C:FSX or another hard drive like D:FSX. You just have to make sure you have all remnants of FSX removed before you do this as it could cause conflicts later. For instance, if you don't use a registry cleaner, some remnants of the old FSX installation would remain and some addons may think FSX is installed in the default location and some think it's located in the new non-default location. Best regards,Jim
