New WIII scenery - check it out!

Featured Replies

I have just come across the new freeware scenery for WIII (Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, Indonesia) by Budi Santoso. It is one of the best freeware sceneries I have ever come across, IMHO, when considering both FPS-friendliness and detail. (Yes, there are more detailed sceneries around, but what$B!-(Bs the use of those when you can$B!-(Bt get decent frame rates without a high-end computer?) It also comes with animated vehicles and automated maintenance vehicle armada.Very, very fine work!

Have a link? I searched the fs2002 and fs9 file sections using both WIII and Budi Santoso but couldn't find it. Thx.rgds, billg

I got this scenery as well. You're right, it's a stunner! The FPS are amazing. How did he do it with all that detail? Perhaps he should share his secrets with other scenery makers.Lee

Maybe, due to the recent hard disk probs at Avsim, it$B!-(Bs not available there.Go to Flightsim and search for wiii in the "FS2004 Scenery"-section. The file you want is wiii.zip (approx. 5.4 MB).hopper

cool, thx hopper.billg

There was another one posted here last night, Kansai airport: http://flightinfo.ens.ne.jp/sfs/The site is in Japanese but you can pick out the Kansai download and there's a bunch of other Japanese airports as well. Great aiport, good on fps, and there's an afcad for the kansai one anyway, haven't checked on the others. There's prolly lot's of "jewels" like this out there that are buried away. Too bad we couldn't have some kind of rating system where we could look up scenery based on rating. Otherwise they just sit there....

Rating system: good idea! Based on "averaging" so as to filter lopsided single extreme votes.Did you check Kansai (and those others) frameratewise? Screenshots look like RJBB$B!-(Bs going to be heavy on FPS, but I$B!-(Bll give it a try.

I really haven't tried it, but possibly, the frames are so high because the airport is situated in an area without much standard detail ... e.g. you would hardly get such great fps if the airport was situated around NY City ;)-Daniel

The Kansai scenery is quite good, but has not been updated for FS2004, therefore there are a few small rough spots around the scenery.Lee

I agree with that. I have created an AFCAD2 for that RJBB scenery (available in avsim) but the scenery has some several spots that will cause the aircraft to crash. The crashing spots ruin the whole beautiful and framerate friendly scenery. Because of this I am using the default RJBB since FS2004. :(Anyway I think the scenery's author involved in making a commerical japan scenery, so I think an update for the Kansai scenery is not likely to happen. :(
