March 3, 201214 yr Hi everyone. This is only my second post here, but I've learned much from other's posts. I just wanted to share my reactions to Flight--most of my reactions have been written about by others, but here are a couple thoughts... I was disappointed initially, but quickly learned to appreciate some of Flight's features. I initially rued the loss of a Replay mode, but after more use and facility with other views, it's no longer a deal breaker--for one thing, Flight's cockpiit view is now alive in that it seems to have a bit of the "head latency" effect (which EZCA supplies in FSX). It's not a large, intrusive effect, but enough to add life to the simulation. Also, the sound effects are better (turbulence/rumbling when flaps are fully deployed, and a better set of touch-down sounds), so when I manage the rare "greaser" landing, it's obvious from the feedback the sim supplies. Much better than FSX. When I found out that Microsoft sold off (or licensed somehow) FSX to Lockheed Martin, I realized that Flight had, legally, to be a new product, and it's clear that the developing team focussed on eye candy and the game-like features, but they did this with a much improved core program (engine?), and did it within a limited time frame and probaby a limited budget, so in that light, it seems to be a very good initial release. When they focus more on refinement and addition of aircraft and other scenery regions and correction of bugs as they develop (I too have lost joystick braking), I think this will be a superb simulation. Until then, I'll keep my FSX active too, but have to add, in the last three days I've only booted up Flight. By the way, I've titled this from a geezer because I'm 71 and have used all FS versions since the Sublogic offerings, actually even the green on green monochrome version for the Apple IIe. Have only actually had my hands on the yoke of a flying Cessna 172 for a few minutes but had some nice passenger time in other 172s and a Piper Warrior--I think there's a real connection between having had at least some flying time and the enjoyment of sims--the imagination can be helpful in supplying what the sim may lack. I really see my glass as much more than half full.
March 3, 201214 yr Nice post reball, and welcome to the forums! Great bunch of guys and some gals here, that are very helpful. While not as old , I am 53 but feel like an old geezer lemme tell you, especially with the health issues I have had the last few years. My experience is the same, I love my FSX and will continue to get enjoyment out of it, but have found myself only launching Flight for the last couple of days, I am having some serious fun with it, the graphics are fantastic, and I have not even added the rest of the Hawaiin islands yet.
