Mesh and Landclass - what is it? Should I get it? Which ones?

Featured Replies

I see a lot of add-ons being some "mesh" or "landclass" for certain areas. I have a couple of questions: 1)What exactly are they? 2)What is the difference between mesh and landclass? 3) Is it worth getting them? Are the payware ones (eg Taburet) better than freeware ones?4) Are they compatible with add-on airports (eg Simflyers, LAGO, etc)?5) Don't they slow performance? Thanks for any hints and explanations!

Hi,1&2) Mesh controls the "shape" of the terrain, depending on how close the mesh is sampled, the closer to real life it will be.Landclass controls the distribution of the ground textures, it tells FS where to place town, wood, grass, sand textures etc, they are completely different animals3) yes, I think it is worth getting them, are payware one better, hmmm, I guess most people would have differing opinion's, but of the freeware ones I have tried, the paywares one always surpase them.4) yes, although depending on how close the elevation of the airport is to the addon mesh, you could either get airports on slight plateaus or in slight dips.5) landclass does not slow performance, as all its doing is telling FS where to place the textures, mesh "can" affect performance, although I must confess I have never experianced ANY performance hit using mesh addonsHope that answers your questionsDan.
