March 23, 200422 yr How much if any, is the performance hit different from the default New York? I really want to get it, BUT I don't want it to be another KDFW Simflyers that will never get used because it is unflyable. I flew last night around the default NY to see how much head room I had and with everything maxed and full PAI it was great with a weather scheme, real weather has a little harder, but still doable. Turning down a slider is not an option, so I really need to know before hand. Any input is appreciated!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviation[link:www.cgrmthelos.com]Cougar Mountain Helicopters Best, Michael KDFW
March 24, 200422 yr well, I usually get 23 frames per second when flying the default and about 18 frames per second when flying with the scenery. It also depends on what aircraft I fly.
March 24, 200422 yr Hi Mike,For the amount of detail that is there the framerates are great.I have a massive amount of AI at the surrounding airports and even with all this traffic I get 20+ fps all the time.I am running a P4 3Ghz, 1Gb of DDR ram and a ATI 9800proAlso be aware that to get this scenery running, it would crash on loading, I had to move the manhattan scenery to just above the addon scenery entry in the scenery library. It sure is a nice sceneryDan.
March 24, 200422 yr Yeah, I know that, I was making the point that EVEN with a lot of traffic you can get good framerates.Dan.
March 24, 200422 yr Author I use Manhattan in combination with Shehryar Ansari's LGA, Simflyers EWR and JFK, FSMeteo weather and unbeleivable amounts of custom installed MRAI and other AI traffic. With almost all sliders maxed I never get less than 10fps, usually 15. That's on an Athlon XP 1500 1GB RAM Radeon 9600 XT 128MB. The 10 is only with Simflyers JFK in view in the distance. It's a very well programmed scenery. You might get more frames if you remove the smoke effects Aerosoft included for various smokestacks in the area. The custom autogen city blocks used in Manhattan actually seem to run smoother than the default autogen. Part of the reason is that Aerosoft uses the aerial photo ground texture for the roof textures of the buildings, which gives a lot of variety without requireing the computer to load additional textures, thus optimizing framerates. misha
March 24, 200422 yr Wel you must have your sliders turned way down. I have Athlon XP 2200+, 1gig PC2100 ram, and ATI 9500 Pro (OC'd to above 9700 Pro speeds) and the MAX I can get is 10 fps and its usually around 8. So either your sim detail/graphic driver detail sliders are pretty reduced or you are extremely lucky. From other postings its obvious that unless you have a beefy machine (IE at least 3ghz) you are not going to get decent framerates. I noticed that the ones talking above about no noticible hit have 3ghz machines. To the orginal poster: You didn't reveal what your machine was but unless its high-end this scenery will be a pretty big hit.
March 24, 200422 yr Hi Michael,With all sliders at maximum except Air Traffic Density set at 0, my frame rate drops from 25-30 to about 11-13 when flying over Manhattan at 1000 feet. More fps when flying higher.Roland
March 24, 200422 yr Author I have some water and effects settings reduced, autogen only at dense, aircraft reflections and ground shadows off and mesh terrain at 70%. Sorry, the above should also say, that when the other airports LGA and EWR are in view, the framerate also suffers.Misha
