March 26, 200422 yr Seemingly all of a sudden, all my scenery textures in FS9 load up blurred. Upon pressing alt the textures sharpen to their normal resolution, but return to blurred when exiting the menu. I'm at a loss. A couple of times I managed to maintain sharp textures for a short flight, but it's pretty much blurry all the time. Upon reloading the scenery I get a second of sharp textures, then blurry again. March 26, 200422 yr Quickest thing to try--rename your fs9.cfg file to fs9.bak, then start FS9. FS9 will rebuild all the default settings into the config, and from there you can tweak them back to where they need to be. If that doesn't fix the problem, you can always restore the fs9.cfg backed up at the beginning. You may have to right click the drive FS9 is installed on to search for the .cfg file. Also, in common experience nothing happens suddenly. You may need to reconstruct everything you did to your system in the weeks prior to the problem happening--just note it in Wordpad. A scenery, a driver change, a new software program, a new aircraft--any one of those things can cause FS9 to have an issue like what you describe...-John
March 27, 200422 yr I had a similar problem. It was more intermittment, but I would get blurry textures all of a sudden, usually after switching views, then after hitting the alt key and switching back they were fine for a while. I tweaked my xp settings and installed a program that was mentioned in a thread here (sorry, can't remember the name) that optimized my system for running applications. A search should help you find it. Sorry, not sure which solution helped my blurries but after doing both I had much faster frame rates and haven't had any blurries since. Let me know if you can't track it down, maybe I can find something in my download folder.rgds, billg
March 27, 200422 yr From what I've seen the problem seems to be related to the number and quality of textures in use. Meaning that it happens for me when I'm flying certain aircraft, and that each of these aircraft have quite a few high quality texture files (32-bit with or without mip maps). It seems like the video card is running out of memory for textures, resulting in the ground textures being degraded and smeared beyond recognition. In the past I've also noticed the clearing effect when alt is pressed, but I'm baffled as to why it occurs. What I have found though is that if I change planes to one with fewer textures the problem clears up immediately. As an experiment you might want to switch to one of the default MS planes next time it happens and see if things get better.Eliot
March 27, 200422 yr After a couple of hours of troubleshooting, I have found that the progressive texture degredation I have been experiencing only occurs with the Real Air decathalon in spot view at no less than 0.30 zoom and is induced by pressing alt, or minimizing FS9. Normal texture quality is regained by zooming in or switching views and pressing alt again. So, in short what I originally thought was a serious problem, turned out to be a mere curiosity. I suspect it has something to with what Elliot was saying, but why only the Decathalon? Not even the CS727, PMDG 737NG, Real Air Siai Marchetti, or the MAAM B-25 cause this problem. Thanks for the assistance everyone.BillG, I'd be very interested in hearing more about your XP tweaks and the optimization program you mentioned.Rgeards,Andre
March 27, 200422 yr I get that also. Usually it's a few of my AI planes (sometimes scenery too)I usually pause the game, then go to the aircraft menu and pick the same plane I been using. When FS9 puts the plane back in the game it re-draws everything. That usually gets the textures back to normal.
March 27, 200422 yr Do you have Mega-Scenery for SOCAL. I used to have that problem until I downloaded the patch and it seems to work great until a slight blurring has been occuring after I had done something stupid by putting gps=FS9!GPS_500 0,0 in some of my panels there were for fs2002 and I had to do a system restore because it was cutting half of my gps off. After that I did notice a degration of textures flying over Socal and on the edges of the default scenery.
