Got a Question: Microsoft Flight

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,I was referred over here by a gentleman in the general Flight discussion.I have a problem with running the game Microsoft Flight. I've downloaded and installed the game a few times before making it to this point. The game runs normally until i get to the point of the tutorial mission. As soon as the game play actually starts the screen goes crazy. I have lines, shapes, and shades along with everything else in between filling up my screen. It is to the point where is can't see anything except for the little menu and balloon indicator. This is obviously not flyable.I run a Intel i3 M370 2.4 GHz, with 4 GB RAM, 64 bit processor, and a ATI Radion 5650, running on Windows 7, 1366x768. I thought it might be a graphics/ driver issue since the rest of the game seems fine. I feel i should be up to date on those since other recent game I've purchased work fine. I've tried looking through the forum for the answer's i need, but haven't found anything yet. I have not checked the old archive either. I've been told to try running not in full screen mode, as well as to turn on the vsync option. Settings were set on low. I wish the problem could of been that easy, but it is still not working for me. Sorry in advance if this is something that has been discussed before.Any help would be greatly appreciated. While everyone else is debating over whether Flight is good or not, I just want to play the darn thing.Thank you for your time,Tyler

Hi Tyler,I was the one that referred you to the Hardware Forum. As I am also one of the nerds that frequents here, I will throw out a suggestion. When searching the net for clues I ran across this thread on A2A Simulations:http://www.shockwave...hp?f=17&t=23926In it are contained advice and links to certain Windows updates. It seemed to work for some, but not for others. When I look at the performance of your graphics card it is definitely on the very low side, which would help explain what you are seeing:http://www.videocard...+Radeon+HD+5650Maybe there is just not enough power to run the sim. I hope others have some ideas.Kind regards,

I would for one run manually windows update until it says there is nothing left to update and then manually update to the latest GPU drivers. See if that fixes it.The GPU itself should be able to run Flight, speed is questionable though.

Considering this is a laptop we're dealing with (I assumed with the mobile processor) that "5650" is actually an HD5650. The words "heat" and "too much" come to mind.

Are you sure? Because it happens instantly as I understood it, and not after some time...

Remember that everything is in close proximity in that tiny laptop. Whatever is happening at at that point of the tutorial mission where the artifacts begin, is either making the processor or GPU hot, or is just too much for the system to handle.

Could be, yes. I've tested quite a few laptops in my tech-life, and many whithstood the heat. I just think writing it off onto heat is a bit premature.Question for the OP: you say "The game runs normally until i get to the point of the tutorial mission. " - what does that mean? are you able to fly AT ALL? Or do you mean by game running a game menu is working...?

Thanks for possible options and ideas in the responses. I do understand that my laptop doesn't have the best numbers. As for a better description, I hit the play button and start up the tutorial of the game. The beginning video whether i decide to cut scene it or not, works perfectly fine. As soon as the actual game play starts up is when the screen has problems. My joystick works with the game, I can still control the plane with no lag, I just can't see where I am flying so I eventually crash. I'm in the process of trying to upload a video to show the effects I'm trying to describe. Thanks

An external video (phone, camera...) will do and not the recording through FRAPS or similar please.
