No AI at Boeing Field?

Featured Replies

Hi there,I am wondering if others ARE getting AI traffic at Boeing Field?Even though I put the latest AFcad2 file in Add on Scenery/Scenery I dont get anything at all. Not one aircraft which seems odd.I am using Ultimate Traffic and have removed their traffic file in favour of the new one I downloaded last week.Any help would be very welcome. Many thanks in advance.Richard

I am using Ultimate Traffic as well and I think all I have seen there at one time is two or three UPS planes. I am using a different afcad for it as well.

Oops, double post. Sorry.Jim

Hi,Just wanted you to know that an AFCAD file will determine an Airport layout and it's Facilities. Things like where the tower is, layout of runways and taxiways. ILS's for the runways. Where the gates are and what airlines park at them, ect. It has nothing to do with how much traffic is scheduled into and out of an airport. Apparently UT's schedule has only a small amount of traffic for that airport if you are seeing none or very few planes there. If you want more traffic there you will need to use a traffic editor to schedule the flights yourself. I believe UT comes with one. Or you could look into using TTools. I use MyTraffic 2004 and it comes with a traffic editor so I'll bet UT does too.Hope that helps,Jim

The reality is that there is not a lot of Scheduled Traffic in and out of Boeing Field. It serves as an alternate to SeaTac if inclement weather occurs, (usually fog), and as a departure point for chartered flights. There may be some freight traffic, but usually not more than one or two flights a day.The amount of AI that existed by default on FS2004 was ridiculously unrealistic. Boeing Field does not serve as a commuter feeder airport, it is not really that busy at all. It's primary usage is for unscheduled GA flights, and as an obvious air field for planes built at the Boeing plant. (Although most of the construction now occurs in Renton (Renton Municipal) and up in Everett (Paine Field). So if AI traffic programs show Boeing to be pretty quiet, it's pretty accurate.

Ultimate Traffic gives Boeing Field only 26 flights per week - to and from KSDF,KGEG and KRFD all of them UPS 757s, you'll have to add your own charters. I use AITM for this, it very easy when you can get hold of the timetables.Tony

I have to disagree with Boeing Field not being busy at all. I lived in Seattle from 2000 - 2002 and flew out of Boeing field on a semi-regular basis. You are correct that there isn't much "regular" traffic, but it is a very busy airport and definetly more than one or two freight flights a day. Ameriflight in their metros, UPS, DHL, Emery and many more are there on any given day. There is a steady stream of buisness aircraft (Lears, Gulfstreams etc...) in and out constantly and a multitude of smaller GA not to mention several of the rich man toys on the field.I remember one beautiful summer day coming across Elliot Bay (in 172RG) entering downwind for 31L, we were behind a Beaver Amphib (who had to take a long downwind due to a 737 landing, there was Cessna 206 behind us. A Cessna Caravan took off and passed us on the left (obviously before we entered the downwind) and there was a NOAA Dash 8 flying at 700ft AGL over the bay, not to mention several other aircraft in the vicinityBoeing Field is one of the neatest airports to be around for an airplane fanatic, in my humble opinion, and it is always busy.Have funDave

Let me correct myself. There is plenty of GA and business traffic out of Boeing field. However, most AI programs, use actual "schedules" to schedule their traffic. Since most of the traffic in Boeing is "unscheduled" it looks more bare than it really is.On the contrary, the default AI traffic in FS2004 is also equally unrealistic, in it shows a lot of "scheduled" traffic in FS2004.The only way to get close to realism at Boeing would be to first take the default traffic.bgl file and use TTools do uncompile it and manually remove all the "heavies" and leave all the GA intact. Then recompile so you have a GA ONLY traffic file. Then use your AI traffic program to create the "scheduled stuff". Personally I find that to be a bit tedious, but whatever floats your boat....
