April 6, 201214 yr hi as the title says. What are your opinions on the Xtreme Prototypes Lear? I like systems depth, as long as most systems are well simulated then im happy. Just wondering if its worth the $. thanks lee
April 6, 201214 yr Yup, it is worth the money. It is hard to operate, as per the real thing, i.e. fuel management is important because of the small amount it carries, and landing and approach speeds are high. Behaviour at high Mach in the cruise is not quite as dangerous as it can be in the real thing when you get up near coffin corner in the flight envelope, but overall the thing flies as per the real aircraft and the cruise does require you to stay on top of things in much the same way as one has to with a real aircraft with such flight characteristics, as it will never be too far away from stalling. The systems in the VC are very comprehensive, all the switches and knobs work, so if you like realism, it will certainly float your boat. The virtual cockpit is somewhat 'clean and new' in appearance, which is not everyone's cup of tea, since it is mostly fairly shiny computer graphics in appearance rather than super-duper Captain Sim-style textures with mega 3D modeling of all the gauges. But it still looks okay in my opinion and is perfectly usable. The manual is excellent and informative, explaining how to fly it properly without being over-long, thus you can be up and running quickly, so make sure you read it or you will never get the engines running LOL. On the subject of which, the sounds are okay, but it could do with a better engine sound on the external view. As I'm sure you know, the Lear 20 uses turbojets rather than turbofans, and that makes it a screamer when you hear a real one. They are proper noisy little sods in real life; much more like a jet fighter in sound than an airliner, even an older one. In short, it is one of the better aircraft you can get for FSX. Note that there is an Avsim review of it, which pretty much agrees with what I've written here. Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
