Scenery Density

Featured Replies

Greetings to all,

First off, I am very happy with Flight. I did note that my trees, etc.. do not seem to be as thick as they look on the Windows 7 theme scenes. I have trees and bushes, but they seem to be a long ways apart. I have an ATI 4650 with 1 GB of video ram. Am I just expecting too much? The options are all get to the top (high) settings

Thanks,

Les

Hello Les,

Because of your hardware specs, you may not have all the options available. Many of the graphics settings go all the way to Maximum, but if you do not have a 64-bit OS (preferably Win 7) and over 4 GB RAM (or the 3 GB switch), then you will not have them, and will be limited to High.

Best regards.

Luis

However, the Maximum setting will only add a ring of extra autogen in the very distance: it won't change the density nearby (and the added autogen isn't worth it imho, specially since loading will take a lot longer). So even with a new GPU Les won't see more trees. The density of the trees is different everywhere btw: mainly you only flew above the big islands at places where trees are spread thin?

You are correct, except it will make autogen denser in the far distance before that extra ring. Using your terminology, the inner ring is the same for High and Max, but the middle ring will be denser in Max, and the outer ring will become available in Max.

Hm, are you sure...? Well, I suppose you are otherwise you wouldn't say this  but I did a few tests with the various settings and didn't see a difference in density. But I only tested it at one place, maybe that's why I didn't see a difference.

Actually I need to make a small correction. The inner ring remains the same whether you are on High or Max as I've said before. When set to High, the autogen density gradually decreases starting at the middle ring as you move farther away from the player. The outer ring does exist at High setting, but the density has decreased to a such extent that very few objects are visible. When set to Max, the middle ring becomes as dense as the inner ring and autogen density starts to decrease starting at the outer ring instead.

What is great is that the transition between the rings is actually very subtle and the dynamic of autogen density change is also very smooth.
