April 14, 200422 yr Hi all, over the last 6 days I've been recreating the Statue of Liberty at a much higher detail level than the default one. I have 3 things left to do :-add the staircase behind the statue,-rotate the statue for correct heading-possibly add some people to the statue. If anyone can tell me the "official" heading, I'd be very grateful. Also, would you rather prefer some people standing on the pedestal or not. ALso, a useful photo of the stairs behind the statue would be of great help - google didn't spit out to many photos from behind it.Thanks.-Danielhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/71398.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/71399.jpg
April 14, 200422 yr Hi Daniel,That looks very nice indeed. Is it a very complex model?, i.e. does it have a high poly count?, does it effect performance at all?.CheersDan.
April 14, 200422 yr Thanks! I just noticed I should've reduced the size of the screenshots ... they always look so small on my other display. Oh well. I guess I'll try some LODs, because I get a short stutter while it loads. It has 3295 polys right now. I've included a shot of the light map. Still needs some work though. -Danielhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/71408.jpg
April 14, 200422 yr Alrighty it's about done. Expect the release soon. -DanielPS.: If anyone with Aerosoft Manhattan could contact me for testing, I'd be thankful. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/71438.jpg
April 14, 200422 yr looking mighty good, alot better than the default one. Any chance of making it work with the Aerosoft Manhattan scenery aswell ?Jani
April 14, 200422 yr Yep, I've just adjusted size and orientation according to a screenshot I got from Tatu Kantomaa. I'm awaiting his reply so I can make final adjustments. I still don't know about the stairs behind the statue...if anybody knows wether they've been removed in the last couple of years, let me know.-Daniel
April 15, 200422 yr Hey Daniel,Your new design for Lady Liberty looks great. Metro Helicopters VA pilots see this scenery alot, on virtual site-seeing flights, and air taxi runs between EWR and NYC area heliports. Metro's US theme livery features the Statue of Liberty!Anyway, I thought you might find these photos helpful, if you want to work on the orientation of the Statue, and also on the layout of the Island landscaping... I took these shots about a year ago, while on a site-seeing flight. By the way, I have the new Aerosoft Manhattan scenery on order, so if you need a "tester" for any integration efforts, please let me know.Best regards,WayneMetro 7 / NMH07www.metrohelo.orghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/71467.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/71468.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/71469.jpg
April 15, 200422 yr Here is a link to some r/w pictures of the city and the Lady taken by the owner of N18GG.http://rob.com/lancair/2004.03/While you are looking, you might just as well see his plans for racing in the "SUN100" in his Lancair Legacy -- N18GG. An EXCELLENT FS8 and FS9 N18GG model is in the library by Bob Christopher.http://rob.com/lancair/2004.SnF/Regards,BobSSeems the rage to talk about the "size and speed" of each others computer. Beat this if you can for solving novel/unique problems.. ..Have K&E and know how to use it!
April 15, 200422 yr Thanks for everything :)She's pretty much aligned with aerosofts scenery now, but I guess I'll change her color back to blue instead of green - the shots on the internet differ soooo much! And I'll work a little more on the night textures. I just don't want to rush it. I've attached a shot from the manhattan scenery...just a little to the east should do it...and I guess I'll change the shape just a little so it fits better with the texture. -Daniel
April 15, 200422 yr Ooops :D forgot the pic. Here it is, but it's not up to date anymore. I've corrected the shape of the pedestal according to the pic, but I'm still waiting for confirmation of the placement. Otherwise I'm ready for release.-Daniel
April 15, 200422 yr Hi there. What it will be like for compatibilitiy with the Aerosoft Manhattan Scenery? Thanks in advanceCraig
April 15, 200422 yr Check the pic which I've posted with the last post. I'm still waiting for confirmation that the position is now correct - but if you (yes YOU) own Aerosoft Manhattan and are going to be online for the next couple of hours, email me: [email protected] then it might be done quicker ;).-Daniel
April 15, 200422 yr Daniel,Don't be misled by the color you see in some photos. Remember that some shots taken from aircraft are through plexiglass that is treated for solar radiation. Most aerial photos have a blue hue because the photographer does not "color correct" the photo. Secondly, even photos taken in open air with digital cameras can be skewed depending on the camera settings and the design of the camera. The end result here is you should portray the lady as she is constructed, from oxidized copper. That means multiple variations from green to greenish-blue, and even some white green in the most heavily oxidized areas.True color representation can be seen on the official website at http://www.nps.gov/stli/mainmenu.htmBruce
April 15, 200422 yr Yeah that's true - but I think I got it right now. Normally you can get the hue away by using auto levels, but that particular picture was quite misleading. Anyways I've released the file - the first place to download is www.flightsimmer.com but I've also uploaded to the major flightsim sites. -Daniel
