April 14, 201214 yr How should one perform a go around when performing an visual approach? When A/P and A/T are turned off the controls are left for the pilot. Will TO/GA work when A/P and A/T are turned off? Geir Geir Hansen
April 14, 201214 yr Commercial Member TOGA is an FD mode only - it is not an A/T or AP mode. If the A/T is off, press the TOGA button and then advance the thrust to the GA limit manually. The proper technique for a visual if you want the A/T to advance the thrust is to turn the FDs off but leave the A/T on. Press the SPD button and it'll put the throttles into ARM - this allows you manual control of the thrust. When you do the G/A, press TO/GA - the A/T will advance the thrust and the FDs bars will reappear in "popup mode" to give you guidance, follow those. After the initial phase, turn the FD switches back on and select whatever other modes you want - it's essentially a normal climb at that point. April 17, 201214 yr Author Hi Thanks for a good answer Tabs. Your solutions works well when doing an ILS and turing it all off, (F/Ds off, SPD ON, A/P off) before a visual approach. I have another challenge. What if I use speed intervention before a visual. Then the speed button remains turned on. It seems not to help turning off F/D. It seems like it'll not put the throttles into ARM. Any suggestions? Geir Geir Hansen
