FSX problem after loading SP1 & SP2 or Acceleration

Featured Replies

Whenever I download either Acceleration or The SP1 and SP2 combo within an hour (the shortest period so far) or day or two my FSX plane loses its throttle response or it elevator response along with sometimes the altitude or heading guages, flaps, ability to change views, and on a few occasions a CTD. As much as most add-ons require these auxillary programs be loaded to to FSX to function this is not a good situation. I want to be able to operate my QW757, fsdt GSX, etc.

This has been going on for 6 months and I am sick of uninstalling and reinstalling FSX and trying once again the SP1& SP2 or Acceleration as that is 2 to 3 hours wasted time.

Has anyone out there experienced this problem? If so what is the solution? Is there one?

If anyone has an answer please bear in mind I am a doofus with computer instructions, abbreviations give me fits, so if the solution is the least bit complicated I will have to be given step by step instructions with full explanations.

I would appreciate any help I can get.

Bensmini, I am using FSX SP1 and SP2. Just wondering if you are installing correctly? - Install FSX, start a flight, anything will do just for one minute or less. Shut down FSX and load SP1. Repeat step one, i.e. start FSX, make short flight. Shut down FSX, load SP2, Again make short flight. Shut down FSX. You should now be ready to go. If you are already doing the above I can't offer other explanation, sorry.

Note: I am not using Acceleration, but if you do, this has SP2 on it; so, you would install Acceleration at the point I mention SP2 above.

Good advice from Selkan above.

If you installed Acceleration, you do not need to install SP1 or SP2, just FSX and then Acceleration. To repair an installation, you simply reinsert the Acceleration DVD and select Repair as the option.

If this does not fix your problem, delete your FSX.cfg, restart FSX, and let the config rebuild itself. Here's a link to how to find your FSX.cfg if you are not familiar with that -

Hey Jim and Selkan thanks for your replies. As far as uninstalling and reinstalling FSX I'm pretty sure I am doing it correctly, after 10 or more efforts I am still defeated.

Jim I don't understand your instructions. When `you say "delete" my FSXcfg and "restart" FSX, are you talking about uninstalling FSXcfg or what? Restart??

I got nowhere with that video of how to find FSXcfg. My FSX file is in Microsoft Games under Program Files (x86) and when I open that file I don't see any place to add my name, etc. Plus the fact that the page views shown are in German, something of a language barrier.

Please point me in the right direction, as I said I need step by step instructions, but the steps have to be something that works on my computer.

Thanks in advance, bensmini

The fsx.cfg is located in the following hidden folder: C:\Users\(your name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\. Delete the fsx.cfg. Restart FSX and the FSX.cfg will rebuild itself. If you cannot see the hidden folder, goto the Start button, look up and to the right and click on Computer then C:\. At the top you will see a menu. Click on Tools, then Folder Options. Click on the View tab. Under Advanced Settings, look under Files and Folders and click on Hidden files and folders. Click on Show hidden files, folders, and drives. Click OK and close. Now, in the left column you should see (your name) then, under that, AppData, then under that, Roaming. That should take you to the fsx.cfg where you can delete it.

Jim

Jim well no luck so far. First I tried typing in your path C:\........FSX\ in the google box at the top of display and got no such file exist which is what I figured would happen. Then I tried click computer off of start but found NO C:\ and saw no menu, tools, or anything to lead me further. Don't know what to do now?

Perhaps the best thing would be to discuss this matter by phone if you wouldn't mind. I am going to include my Email address and if you agree to chatting you can send me your phone # and the best time to call you.

I would love to discuss this matter with a knowledgable person. I live in Salt Lake City, my name is Ben Metcalfe, my Email is [email protected], phone # (801) 359-7031. I am retired and spend most of my days at home, so can talk anytime.

Ben, if you can, go into your post above by clicking on the Edit button and delete your e-mail address and phone number. You should never post those in a forum. On the front page of AVSIM wyou can send a private message to anyone by clicking on the Messenger icon in the above right location. I'll send you a message.

Best regards,

Jim
