April 22, 200422 yr Apparently their was a close call at manchester airport ( EGCC )on February 29th. I've heard that a My Travel A321 taking off from runway 6L had to do an emergency abort after a Ryanair 737 crossed the runway. I've also heard that a controller was arrested ! Has anyone more info about this incident ? Cheers
April 22, 200422 yr Can't say the incident rings a bell - but I doubt very much if a controller was arrested just for an emergency abort! I work in the air traffic industry, and can't say I've heard any of this.-Phil Phil Brown
April 22, 200422 yr The MyTravel A321 (G-SMTJ) had been given takeoff clearance was rolling on 06L, just prior a Ryanair 737-200 has landed from Dublin on 06R and therefore to get to Terminal 2 it had to cross 06L which it was also given clearance to do, as the MYT aircraft was acclerating the captain saw the 737 darting across at which point he took the decision to make an Emergency stop. The Air traffic controller was immediately suspended pending an Investigation by the AAIB, although NATS said the suspension was "an entirely routine procedure while any investigation of this type is undertaken." The aircraft taxied back to the beginning of 06L to try again but the decision was made to return the aircraft to the Terminal 1 so the brakes could be checked, I think they get slighly warm after a full blown emergency stop :-newburn .http://www.airliners.net/discussions/gener...main/1431714/4/http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/3534245.stm
