Warbirds - Auto Mixture Control Required

Featured Replies

I stumbled on something that was new to me. Since the Warbirds don't have cockpits you can't control the mixture. I was trying out the P-40 by switching to in a Saved flight I have of "Over Mona Kea" with the RV6A at 14,000 feet. When I came back after the switch to the P-40, it was losing altitude and stalling. I switched to the Zero and got the same thing. I quickly switched out again and turned "manual Mixture Control" back to Auto mode. Back to Mona Kea and the Zero came alive with a puff of smoke from the engines. I tried the P-40 and it was flying normal again.

I am in "Manual Mixture Control" by default because I have been flying so many Cargo smuggling runs. When I am down to 5% fuel and have 50 miles to go... throttling back and leaning the mixture as far as the engine will tolerate... will get you home.

Another minor bug... I could not use the P51 in the test. When I was in the Mona Kea saved flight, the P51 was in limbo. It showed up in the list but showed as "ReDownloadable". As soon as I has exited the saved flight, the P51 was back to normal.

Hmmm. I use manual mixture in the P51 to climb higher and higher by listening to the engine note. Seems to work fine for me.

There are keyboard short cuts to control mixture. Check your controls menu.

Good point. I hardly ever use the keyboard for aircraft controls. I'll look up those controls again
