Microsoft has announced an update to Flight
Will Gmap be affected by this update? Has anybody who installed the update tried Gmap?

Non-Linear (exponential) Response Needed for CH Rudder Pedals
I am back in FSX from MS Flight. I am now taking my PPL and need FSX to help me practice real flying. I just spent $200 to get GEX NA, UTX USA and REX Essential... and 3 Carenado GA trainers. FSX is much better now. I bought my CH pedals to use in MS Flight... and I had non-linear response options for rudder control that made the pedals much more like real pedals in a real plane. Now in FSX those CH pedals are way too sensitive to the point that I almost can't use them. The plane is almost uncontrollable down the runway because the rudder moves way to much with a slight application of rudder. FSX has a "sensitivity option" but that just makes the control slow to move and slow to return to center... which does not help. Never Mind!!! SORRY for the posting. I did figure this out using the CH Control Manger.

Going Back to FSX - How Do I Do It Right
REX Essentials installed yesterday. FSX is starting to look a lot better. Brian

Going Back to FSX - How Do I Do It Right
Thanks for all the advice. I installed GEX NA and UTX USA yesterday and had my FSX.cfg tweaked by that web tool. Boy what a difference visually. New England now looks very closer to what I see out the window at 3000 feet in the Cessna. That was $70 well spent. Brian

Going Back to FSX - How Do I Do It Right
I apologize to Luise and others that thought that this post should have been on the FSX forum. They are right... and I will go there. But I valued most the opinions of fellow MS Flight fans who could sort through all the alphabet soup and give me advice on how to come closest to MS flight. The FSX forums are a little intimidating. Everybody is immersed in FSX add-ons and tweaking and there are wildly differing opinions on want is good and what is bad. I wanted to ask this question here first before diving into the learning curve of FSX add-ons. Thanks for the advice so far. I will still do the aerocache of day until it stops and I will probably buy that last airplane if it has a cockpit. Really bummed Brian

Going Back to FSX - How Do I Do It Right
I have been a flight sim fan since the late 80s. I lost interest in FSX until recently. MS flight re-ignited my life long ambition to get my private pilots license. I am now 3 lessons in on that adventure and so glad I started. FSX has been loaded on my system since the day built it. I went back and found my home airport... KFIT Fitchburg, MA. Although the flying was far from as real as MS Flight or flying a real Cessna 172, the detailed realism on airports and cockpits let me practice before every lesson. Recently I bought the Carenado 152, 172 and Cherokee payware planes to improve the realism. Now that MS Flight is dead, I feel my only path is to go back to FSX. XP-10 was a big disappointment. I could not even keep the 172 from going off the runway with crazy left torque effect. Level flight was just as bad with constant roll to the left. The torque effect in a real 172 is minimal. And, XP-10 will be a big investment in payware airplanes and scenery to make it work. Aerofly FS is nice scenery but a flawed flight model as far I am concerned. I need some help from you guys that understand how to pump up FSX to come close to Flight... or know where I can to find a step-by-step tutorial or book that will tell me how to build an FSX+ environment that I can use until the next great flight sim comes along. I have used every MS flight sim program since the IBM PC back in 80s. But other than freeware airplanes I never dove in and bought that alphabet soup of add-ons. ORBX, REX, GEX, KORS, OPEN VFR, Ultimate TERR-X, Sim-Savy... it is an overwhelming nightmare of a learning curve. And... it will cost a bundle to "try" these things one by one. I have visited the FSX forum here at AVSIM and there is a wealth info there. I did find some material on tweaking FSX itself but nothing on a "how-to" build a "best" FSX+ with aftermarket add-ons. Any help, recommendations or pointers would be appreciated. I am an advanced windows PC guy and can handle the tech stuff, but I need a start in the right direction. Brian

The End of Flight?
Rag Tag... I tried to send a PM but it was blocked. The airport that I fly out of is Fitchburg (KFIT). It was a choice of Nashua, Hanscomb or Fitchburg. The training and renting at Hanscomb and Nashua were just too expense and focused on commercial pilot training. The Minuteman airport in Stow was a possible but the flight training there had just had a huge scandal over training illegal aliens. However it is just about the same distance as Fitchburg and, in fact, I am flying out of there this weekend with a new friend that I met at the EAA chapter meeting in Fitchburg. I picked Fitchburg because of a recommendation of a pilot friend from my sports car club. He thought that the multiple runways were longer and wider and the traffic on weekdays was very light. He said the EAA chapter there is very active and friendly to new members. Fitchburg has turned out to be a great choice... really nice people. Brian Sanborn Groton, MA

The End of Flight?
What a blow! I am sad and disappointed like all of you. And I really liked Flight so much that I bought a yoke and pedals, new joystick... and TrackIR. But the really great thing that flight did for me... was it made me start training for my private pilots license. I have had 3 lessons so far in a real C-172 and will be flying with a new friend in a Cherokee 180 this weekend. I finally decided to go for real flying. I have gone back to FSX recently because my home airport is there. I can start on the ramp and practice all the pre-flight and pre-takeoff checklists. The flying is not as real but I do have my actual home airport to fly from and all the local airports that will be in my cross-country territory. I have XP-10 and Aerofly FS but find can't find comfort in either one. I have thought about building up FSX with all the expensive add-ons. But I am not sure about what I would have when I finished. I might just have the same non-real flying with better scenery. Thanks MS Flight for forcing me to finally go for my PPL. Brian

CH rudder pedals toe brake problem - any suggestions?
My CH pedals work as intended. Have you tried them under FSX to see if the left side hardware is working? Brian

Strange Freezes and Graphic Objects
The Catalyst 12.6 driver is listed as a beta release on the AMD site. I am looking for more stability not more risk. Beta releases usually have fixes in them, but by definition are more buggy and less stable. Brian

Strange Freezes and Graphic Objects
Thanks for all the help on this. It is comforting to know I don't have serious problem with my system. I think I will retro back to Catalyst 12.1 which where I was before these problems started. I'll see if that solves the problem. Brian

Strange Freezes and Graphic Objects
I am on AMD/ATI Catalyst 12.3 using a ATI 4780 card with 1 GB of memory. Perhaps I should fall back to the last very stable AMD drivers. Someone on this forum stated that 12.1 was the best driver release. Any opinions?

Strange Freezes and Graphic Objects
With no aerocaches to play with, I have been wandering from up the south at Annette Island to the Anchorage area landing at each airstrip along the way. Once at Anchorage the high airport density makes the strategy a little obsolete. On the way, I have experienced some odd scenery bugs... some of them cause the screen to freeze as I pass through them or to make my system crash after passing through them. The first was a freeze as I was landing at one of the fields in lower Alaska. I forgot to write down the name of airport. As I was coming in on an easy approach to the runway, the game screen froze and I thought I would have to reboot and I took my hand off the stick. But after about 5-7 seconds later the screen starts moving again and my plane looks like it dropped out of an invisible wall and has moved on to where it should be 5-7 seconds later and is now lower than I want and I have to grab the stick to save it. It was like the plane passed through an invisible object and came out the other side. The last two screen shots were taken this morning while approaching runway 16 at Elmendorf Air Force Base. As I approached a black rectangle appeared in the sky and as I approached closer, It appeared as a large black floating 2D rectangle. I was able to fly through it but after doing do... about 10 secs later... the screen froze and the speakers were making strange sounds and the only fix was a forced reboot. I never experienced anything like this in Hawaii. Anybody else run into stuff like this Brian
