May 4, 201214 yr Hey guys, I'm new here and I think this might be the right area to post this, if not may a moderator please move it to the right area, sorry! but I have been playing FSX for about 5 years now. A few weeks ago, I decided to start playing FSX again and it would freeze up and crash, nothing fixed these crashes so I uninstalled the game, completely removing everything to do with FSX from my computer. I installed it again and now I can't even start the game! As soon as I try and run FSX it starts up, doesn't even load to the menu before it crashes due to a "Fatal error". This is really frusterating me because it is one of my favourite games and I've done literally everything I can think of to fix it and it is just not working. I have run FSX for 2 years on this computer and it worked fine, no crashes or anything. This just started happening last week ago when I started playing again. System Specs: q6600 quad core 2.4ghz nvidia geforce 9800gtx Windows Vista HP 64bit 8gb ram Things I've tried: - I've tried the "UIAutomation.dll fix", apparently it fixes this problem for most users on Windows 7 64bit and for some users on Vista 64bit - Complete re-install of FSX and addons - Updated lastest DirectX and nvidia drivers - Downloaded and install both SP1 and SP2 packs for FSX If you need anymore information about this problem please ask, hopefully some of you guys/girls know how to fix this issue, Thanks, Connor.
May 5, 201214 yr Complete re-install of FSX and addons Most likely you have your FSX settings set too high. FSX is an old program and cannot 'see' more than 4GB of memory (see Setting up FSX and Tuning It - http://www.simforums...topic29041.html and scroll down to about halfway down to the section on memory). Even with a 64 bit system. Even with 8GB of RAM. In order to investigate further into the cause of your crash, we need to see the details of the CTD from the data in the Event Viewer. If you are unfamiliar with the Event Viewer, I have posted details on how to access it and post your details here in almost every post below yours. You should also make sure you have the all the versions of Microsoft.net installed (versions 1 thru 4 are required for most depending on what addons are installed). The developer of an addon will install the proper version required for their software but this may not have occurred properly. For your information, the uiautomationcore.dll is a file that is included with each version of Microsoft.net. In addition to dotnet, you need Microsoft Visuals C++ Redistributables from 2005, 2008, and 2010 installed (depending on what addons are installed). Again, these are normally installed by the developer when an addon is installed. Dotnet framework software versions and MSV's are not backward compatible. Again, if you need this software, I have posted instructions on obtaining them in the posts just below yours. It does not hurt to install these versions even if they are not really required. You might want to look and follow the guidelines of setting up FSX and tuning it for your system by following the instructions in the link I provided above. Of course, there could be many other problems wrong, some of which are system overheating, corrupted video card drivers, and/or wrong virtual memory settings. Hope this helps. Best regards, Jim
May 5, 201214 yr Author Most likely you have your FSX settings set too high.... I just tuned my system for Vista by following the website you sent me and I re-installed Microsoft Visuals C++ Redistributables 2010, and I still cannot start my game up. I found the error in Event Viewer, here it is; Faulting application fsx.exe, version 10.0.61355.0, time stamp 0x4643ee0a, faulting module ui.dll, version 10.0.61355.0, time stamp 0x4643f2aa, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0003c983, process id 0xffc, application start time 0x01cd2b04106b92d8. and fsx.exe 10.0.61355.0 4643ee0a ui.dll 10.0.61355.0 4643f2aa c0000005 0003c983 ffc 01cd2b04106b92d8 Thanks, Connor UPDATE!: I completely unistalled my game, will install another time and hopefully I don't have these errors
May 5, 201214 yr faulting module ui.dll, version 10.0.61355.0, time stamp 0x4643f2aa, exception code 0xc0000005 The problem is the ui.dll. I did a search on Google.com for ui.dll fsx and this is a possible solution - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/270643-fsx-ui-corruption/. If that doesn't work there are others. Just do a search for ui.dll fsx. The Exception Code 0xc0000005 indicates too that you had a Memory Access Violation. It could have been caused when maybe a program was trying to call the ui.dll and couldn't find it or it was corrupted. Good luck! Hope the reinstall works. Just make sure all of FSX is uninstalled. It still leaves folders in the Main folder as well as the folder where your scenery.cfg is located and where your fsx.cfg is located. You might want to run a registry cleaner too after the uninstall. I found a neat little uninstaller called IObit Uninstaller 2 - http://www.iobit.com/download.html?ref=asc. It's freeware. It uninstalls a program then, at your request, it searches your registry and other locations on your harddrive where the program you just "uninstalled" still exists. You can then select all or some of the findings and it will remove them. Much better than the Windows installer or the installer that came with FSX. Best regards, Jim Best regards, Jim
May 5, 201214 yr Author The problem is the ui.dll.... I've had my time with Vista and all its errors (including this one with FSX), I'm picking up a copy of Windows 7 later this week (about time) and going to reformat running Windows 7, see you on the otherside.
