May 9, 201214 yr Folks Being a chart, compass and watch navigator I need to have a true airspeed to use for flight planning. How should I establish what I should be using for the RV & Maule? I know there is a calc that uses indicated AS, and pressure altitude, but in my (admittedly fairly limited) flight training I simply got told to use X knots for whatever a/c I happen to be flying. I'm hoping there is something similar I can use (or determine) here. Cheers Mike Mike Dryden
May 9, 201214 yr Where's your E6B? Lol Roughly speaking add 2% to your IAS for every thousand feet of altitude in a standard atmosphere. You can assume you are always in a standard atmosphere in Flight. So, of you are going to cruise at 100KIAS at 8k feet, your TAS will be about 116KTAS.
