Who is still using windows 98, what payware do you use?

Featured Replies

Hi ,Who is still using Windows 98, and what sort of payware you use with windows 98?. I use still windows 98SE, but i have great diffeculties with some payware, like PSS and others. Thanks and best regards, Martijn

I still run Win 98SE on a rather old system. I've nursed it along for as long as I can since it supports my ISA scanner which scans oversized documents, and since it's been quite stable over it's five year lifetime. Surprisingly, with little sacrifice in quality, my fps with FS2004 stay around the low to mid-20's.As for payware, I have the DF Cardinal, ES's 400A/Premier, Flight1 421, and Carenado V35.... At least, that's the payware I have w/panels.I know where you are going with this question--more and more vendors are dropping support for Win 98. Stands to reason, doesn't it? Our O/S is almost seven years old. Almost everything is developed under an XP O/S these days. You don't list your other system specs, but likely you will have to avoid newer payware. Another option is to learn a bit of panel.cfg setup, and learn to diagnose and comment out gauges which may be causing you problems. Gauges are code--and when you have a conflict, you can almost always trace it to one or two .gau files overtaxing Win98's archaic memory management model.-John

I still use it, but its days are numbered. All I use is wxRE and AS2002. However, drivers are not being developed as quickly or not at all. And boy I would like to try a SATA drive.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

W98SE (SE required for processors over 1 Gb I think) FS9, ActiveSkyS2004, Radar Contact 3.1 latest build, NAV 3.1 beta (FS2K2 for flight plan folder root), RealityXP (JL2, JL4, WX500, but not FLA 2.x, limited FLA 1.3 - Reality no longer supports W98 but these gauges work for me in their 2.1 versions or there'bouts, WX500 first version), FSUIPC 3.212, FS Panel Studio (but can not edit gauge bitmaps of XML type, requires Win2K plus). In FS2K2 flew Carenado's F33 Bonanza, have not updated for FS9 yet. Also, search for the memory expansion "cheat" that lets W98SE recognize without crashing 755 RAM. Use VCache for the search term.Ultimate Traffic 2 works fine. RealScene2004 OK.

Hi, Thanks Ken and the others for advice, i just started the download for the servicepack 1.5, the payware i use are PMDG 737NG, Feelthere CRJ 200 and the last eaglesoft Citation X, but with limited view of the VC. I use now always GDiplus.dll. The one i'am trying to use is PSS A330/340, but i still get the Gauge error( can not load the gauges)maby someone can help me with this one, but i hope this servicepack will help, thanksBest regards, Martijn
