Re: My DirectX Program is missing....!

Featured Replies

For the past 3/4 weeks I have had a problem within Fs9; where if I try to d/l Real Weather, Connect Multiplayer etc; Fs9 goes into Pause mode; it will not allow me to clear Pause by pressing the 'P' key - I have to close down the 'offending' program? Microsoft Knowledge Base could not help; so I thought I'd try DirectX....but in my C:Program Files there was only a Folder with a sub folder named Settings, opening Settings revealed nothing!! I know I installed Directx 9b months ago? My OS is Windows XP Pro; I think I read somewhere that you don't need directx if you have XP h'mmm?I have not tried a search via the Run facility, because I have forgotten the key word :)Any help would be very much appreciated.Ken

You do need DirectX even with XP Pro Ken.Just download it again from MS, you can either use the web installer or get the runtime (I think it's called) file and save it to your HD and install it that way.

Hi Vulcan,Thanks for your reply.Jim has given me the 'magic' word, it did bring up the Directx Diagnostic Tool; it must have been hiding somewhere in the Sys32 folder.I tried all the pages in the DDT (not the insect spray!) but could not find any apparent conflicts. Only thing I did find a little strange is the fact that the DDT Input page shows 3 entries for my mouse and keyboard? See picture attached. So, I still cannot start SBRelay/SB 2.3.5 or Multiplayer without the 'Simulation Paused' window flashing, pressing P has no effect, until I close the above programs down.I'll have to 'keep on trekking' as they say.Thank you Jim for the dxdiag.exe, much obliged.Ken,Somerset, England

Glad it helped! On your Hardware page or whatever it is now called in XP is your mouse installed 3 times?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi Jim,Thanks for your reply. In XP it's called 'Device Manger'. I checked that; also did a Search All Folders, only one entry found. When I installed the Cordless keyboard/mouse I experienced various kinds of problems and re-installed those items two or three times. Of course I un-installed where necessary. I checked again this morning, Directx stills shows those 3 entries. At the bottom of the Directx Input page it does show 'no problem'?I'm left feeling non-plussed :) - it would seem that I am the only Fs9 user to have this problem.Anyway, thanks again for your input Jim; I'll get it sorted sometime I guess.Ken,Somerset, England

Try starting in safe mode and then check device manager for multiple listings.Kurt M

I tried the Safe Mode; everything seemed OK. On the plus side, going into Safe Mode was a 1st. for me - it took my computer skills another step forward :) as they say in these 'ere parts "it's an ill wind that blows nobody" (dinghy sailing parlance).Thank you for your input, Kurt. I'll keep you posted on any progress.Ken,Somerset, England

Hi everyone,I didn't expect to be back so quick! The good news is, my problem is now fixed. I'm delighted :)Thank you for your input, it helped me to keep 'plugging' away at the problem, when I felt otherwise.Ken,Somerset, England

Hi Jim,Thanks, I'm really pleased it's sorted. The solution came from the PSS Forum and Phoenix 7 in particular. As in all problems the answer is simple (when you know how!). Go in Fs9/Options/Settings/General - then just uncheck "Pause on Task Switch"; problem solved. The downside is that I knew about that, have been doing it for years - just omitted it in Fs9, never gave it a thought. Ah, well, that's life. Still I met some nice people along the way, willing to help out; so you can say it was worth it for that alone.Ken,Somerset, England
