May 12, 200422 yr When flying on-line (IVAO or VATSIM) to any destination in France, you will be instructed by ATC in french as soon as you enter one of the French FIR's.They reluctantly switch over to english, when you insist upon it.I should like to know if the same goes for the french speaking part of Canada. Thanks for a clarifying answer!Regards,Paddy
May 12, 200422 yr Seems like virtual France is mimicing the real World :-)The language of the air both VATSIM and real World is English and AFAIK VATSIM code of practice states English but in the real World it is know that French ATC and airlines do stick to French and this has been a contributory factor in a number of accidents. However that has not made them switch to English.IMHO if they want to use French for their own kind fair enough but if they hear a pilot's initial contact in English they should respond in English.Just imagine the state VATSIM (or IVAO) would be in if each Country decided to offer control only in their native language.I guess one way to kick them into line is to not fly into or over France or to ignore any non-English calls/instructions ;-)Don't know what language that part of Canada uses Paddy but if they do use French I suggest the above action.Rgds
