May 15, 200422 yr I went flying the other day and when we finished I thought I'd go check out some of the nice airplanes in the hanger! Well there was one called a Cheeta, two props and looks like a Cessna 441. Does anyone know what this is? Who makes it etc...Also, there was something I have never seen on a prop plane before. Both props where indented in. In other words it looked like the props had hit the ground while moving; however the props were brand new. Does anyone know what this is for? I assume its for better performance but not sure. Thanks,Eric
May 17, 200422 yr The Q-Tip blades are also supposed to increase prop efficiency. Some time ago, while I was still actively flying, an FAA inspector tagged an aircraft with Q-Tip blades as unflyable until the props were "repaired". Turns out the inspector never heard of them, and there were a lot of problems for the owner trying to get the FAA to correct the error. Lots of outcry about inadequate training for inspectors; fun to watch if you weren't directly involved, though... :-hah Rich---Please return Stewardess to upright position.
May 17, 200422 yr Author I agree with everyone else. The twin that said "Cheetah" on the side could be a cougar as Grumman Aircraft did make a piston twin-Cougar. However, the Cougar is far more likely to be mistaken as a Baron as they have a very similar look at first blush. If this twin was a turbo prop, I don't think Grumman ever made one for GA. If it resembled a 441 it would be a turboprop. In that case, it could be a 441 with a Cheetah sticker on the side as a custom touch the owner wanted. Maybe his 441 is named Cheetah? And yes, Qtips are primarily for noise dampening. My cousin had a set on his C340 but swapped them out for Black Macs.Don't get caught in the hangar without permission! :>
