FS2004 ATC
If you have inexpensive radios, you're pretty much stuck with hand tuning; most trainers are like this, and you get used to it. After a while, you can pretty much do it by feel. There are radios that have "standby". Generally, you will know ahead of time most of the frequencies you will need, and can have the "next" one dialed into standby ahead of time.Rich---The Catholic Church is on record as being against the use of Surrogate Mothers, a rule that was definitely not in effect at the time of Christ's birth.

Bad kitty
> Cats are about the smartest animals I ever met. Some are, some aren't. We have two. One knows how to open the refridgerator. The other has a tendency to run smack into furniture.---Cats are fun. Mine plays Hide-and-go-Puke.

FS9 in Linux
There is a flight simulator that will work in native Linux: [a href=http://www.flightgear.org/]FlightGear[/a]. Haven't looked at it for a while, but it looks like it's coming along nicely.Rich---I think one of the greatest things about marriage is that as both husband and father, I can say anything I want to around the house. Of course, no one pays the least bit of attention.

Meljet
Where are you getting these?? Whenever I go to the MelJet site, it says it will "Be back soon" -- nothing more.

Pre take-off checks
Actually, there's usually a small "runup" area near the hold short line especially for this. Performing the checks right at the hold short line could potentially block other traffic. Transport category aircraft usually perform the checks while taxiing.---For every action, there is an equal and opposite government program.

Co-Pilot Programmes
Radar Contact has a co-pilot option that will not only take care of the radios, but will also comply with ATC instructions within certain limits.

AA Flight 587 Terrorism?
It's just another conspiracy theory; someone claims the co-pilot had a shoe bomb, causing the momentary full rudder deflection noted by the CDR. Lots of discussion on the alt.disasters.aviation UseNet newsgroup; fun to watch as long as you don't take it seriously. These are the same people who believe the Pentagon was hit by a missile fired by a military plane on 9-11, that Israel knew in advance the WTC would be hit and that the U.S. government was responsible for the attack (possibly carried out by empty, remote-control aircraft), that American 800 (if I remember the flight number correctly) was hit by a missile, that aircraft are spraying nerve gas or biological agents into their contrails, and that there's a massive, U.S. government coverup of all of these incidents.Nothing that can't be fixed with a little Prozac and a polo mallet...Rich---New York now leads the world's great cities in the number of people around whom you shouldn't make a sudden move. -- David Letterman

Question for all you aviation experts!
The Q-Tip blades are also supposed to increase prop efficiency. Some time ago, while I was still actively flying, an FAA inspector tagged an aircraft with Q-Tip blades as unflyable until the props were "repaired". Turns out the inspector never heard of them, and there were a lot of problems for the owner trying to get the FAA to correct the error. Lots of outcry about inadequate training for inspectors; fun to watch if you weren't directly involved, though... :-hah Rich---Please return Stewardess to upright position.

Quick question about ATC procedure!!
Could it be he's simulating an area without radar coverage?---Carrier Landing: the most fun you can have with your pants on.

Problem: RC and Control Keys
I'm not using joystick controls for keys. I use the basic, default RC keys, but with Shift-Ctl, so they don't interfere with FS2K4 selection keys; I've thoroughly checked for conflicts.---Where there's smoke, there's toast.

Problem: RC and Control Keys
I've had the problem with default aircraft. Haven't been able to track down the source.

Cargo Door Problems
I've had this problem myself, including it's variant: not being able to select an engine other than #1. The problem is usually with an add-on XML guage. I never found out which one, as I had to re-install before I could discover it. I only reloaded planes I use frequently, and the offending guage/panel must not have been in one of them.

Engine and Door Selection Problems Resolved
Off and on I've heard of people having problems with door and engine selection. The most common example is using E+1 to select the left engine and then E+2 or E+1+2 not working (only engine 1 remains selected). A similar problem exists with door selection. I had this problem myself, and since I prefer to start engines manually, it was quite frustrating. I spent a long time trying to fix the problem. I posted here as well as a number of other FS sites and forums, used several search engines, and IRC. I tried tweaking the various .cfg files. Finally, I found the problem, and thought I'd post it here for those who've spent fruitless, frustrating hours trying to work around the problem. I honestly don't remember where I found the solution (although it was in a public forum somewhere), and I can't seem to find it again, so I can't point to the original source. The source of the problem seems to be a broken XML gauge. The only known resolution so far is to remove the offending gauge and reconfigure any aircraft which use it for a different one. I'm afraid finding the broken gauge involves trial and error. I accidentally resolved my problem by re-installing FS9, and only added third party aircraft I used. The problem apparently was in an aircraft I tried and abandoned, as it has not re-occurred, so I don't know which gauge or aircraft it was.Good luck and good hunting.Rich---You know you're drinking too much coffee when people can test theirbatteries in your ears.

A good FREEWARE twin for FS2004?
Nice aircraft, no checklist (last time I looked). Anyone know where I can get one?---Carrier Landing: the most fun you can have with your pants on.
