Fix for omni directional PAPI and VASI?

Featured Replies

Is there a fix available that makes the PAPI and VASI lights only visible in the correct arc and somewhat less bright?

I'm always annoyed by the way that those lights mark the location of an otherwise obscure airport from 10 miles out.

Thanks

I believe You can change halo.bmp or tweak these parameters in fsx.cfg:

RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.0 //scalesedge,center,end,touchdown,runways RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.0 // scales VASI lights)

RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.0 // scales approach light bars

RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.0 //scales RAILs and ODALs)

I am using 3x16/9 monitors, so by default, original lights cover huge amount of my viewpoint.

Do I have to add these parameters into fsx.cfg? I don't have them in there. If so what section would they go under?

I am running Stock FSX w/Accelaration and any SPs.

Figured it out, searched on Google for those strings and found that others had made the same mods to the cfg file by adding them under the [DISPLAY] section.

It works very well! I downsized the VASI to .3 and while I still think it's a tiny bit larger than it should be it is so much better than before. At least I have a way to fine tune it now.

Thank you.
