Adding OSM roads to XP10

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

I've started work on my next airport: Insch (X6IN). It's a tiny airfield, but very local to where I live.

Dyce version 4 (EGPD) has yesterday been uploaded to the org, Still some work here to do in future, but I fancy a change of scenery for now.

One of the things I'm wanting to do for Insch is to add the neighbouring road to the scenery pack. Now this road was added to OSM after Laminar got their scenery compiled. However I can't find a tool to convert the OSM roads data into x-plane. OSM2XP doesnt do roads, and WED will crash when I make an attempt here. Are there any other tools for the job?

Cheers

Anthony

OK Something doesn't work here, so let's go through these installation instructions:

Requirements

Windows: Requires Python 2.x (version 2.5 recommended). - Went back again after scratching my head. This is OK now.

Installation

  • Unpack the contents of this .zip file into a conveniently located folder, e.g. a folder named XPOSM on your desktop. OK
  • Download the Scenery Tools (Linux users should download the Windows version) and copy the DSFTool program to your XPOSM folder. OK
  • Start a Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal application (MacOS & Linux). OK
  • Change directory to your XPOSM folder. OK

Obtaining the source data

The source data must be in the form of a file in OpenStreetMap XML Data (.osm) format,

Download and save the source data file for your area of interest to your XPOSM folder. OK

Setting up and populating a MySQL database

If you plan to create a scenery package for a large area (e.g. a medium sized country) then this will be very slow. You can store the source data in a database to greatly speed up the process. Otherwise skip to the next section. I skipped to the next section, as we're only talking about a 1km square section of OSM

Configuring the scripts - OK

Running the scripts

  • Windows: In the Command Prompt, type:
xposm.py This is where things have become unhinged. The script returns an invalid dsf file. File & location are correct. I'm guessing that the dsf format has changed for XP10 compared with XP9 which is where these tools originate from.

Any other suggestions?

After having a look around, it looks like the tools for making roads in XP10 aren't available. The XPOSM tool is only for XP9 standard roads, which aren't draped. I bit the bullet and made the road out of an asphalt polygon.
