July 18, 201213 yr I was flying into KFRG today with my newly purchased RealAir Lancair Legacy *biggrin* and as I was passing over KLGA I saw what I believe was flushing airport which was depicted as an actual open runway in FSX ??? even though it was closed 3 decades ago and now the runway is barely even visible? Similarly as I was approaching KFRG from the southwest a bit (about midway between KJFK and KFRG) I saw another runway depicted as closed (with Xs) in FSX even though my sectional doesn't show any closed airports between KJFK and KFRG and I haven't seen one in google maps satellite view either. I have no idea what that one is but is there any updated scenery depicting this area of NY correctly? Frankly I am a bit surprised that the NY area is not well depicted in FSX. I also have Manhattan X and that apparently did not fix the area either. Help? In FSX Real Life As you can see the runway is barely visible at all and it is certainly not an open runway as depicted in FSX. :-(
July 18, 201213 yr Here's the other unknown (closed according to FSX) airport I was talking about on FSX. It does not appear on any sectional chart and I can't find it in google maps satellite view. LOL funny that FSX thinks KFLU is open and then places some other unknown closed airport nearby. Is any case is there any way to fix this scenery?
July 18, 201213 yr some photos and information on Flushing http://www.airfields-freeman.com/NY/Airfields_NY_NY_Queens.htm#Flushing Regards; Fritz
July 18, 201213 yr Yes Flushing Airport was closed in 1984 so it's pretty inexcusable that FSX would depict it as an active airport and runway. :-(
July 19, 201213 yr I wonder if MegaSceneryEarth New York 001 would solve these issues? Not sure how MSE interacts with the airports, I think they are just plopped on top so I'm not sure it would help... Can anyone verify? Separately, what do people think of MSE for New York, Norcal, and Massachusetts? There don't seem to be very many reviews and those that I've found (dealing not with these areas in particular) are mixed depending on the area. I'm thinking of getting the MSE NY 001 tile (if it'll fix this problem) (NYC/Queens, and a bit of Long Island), CA Northern California 009 (San Fran and peninsula), and Massachusetts 001 (covering Boston, Bedford, etc.) I wish ORBX was available for the east coast :-(.
July 19, 201213 yr My dad use to keep his plane at flushing, back in the day. it was a cool little airport, but way too close to LGA. Anyhow I think it still appears on avaition charts or at least it did until recently, which is why both FSX and XP still show it. It is hardly recognizable today. Mostly overgrown weeds and swamp land. The city had sveral propsals over the years to do something with the land, but for various reasons, none of them went through. The land neeeds extensive work to build anything on it. Mega scenery does make it harder to see, but the runway still shows up. Rob

Rob Not on the New York TAC at all, not even as a landmark, according to my current chart. Even if it used to be, it would have been depicted as closed since the 1980s, so still doesn't explain why its an active open airport in FSX.
July 19, 201213 yr According to Wikipedia, "As of 2000, Flushing Airport still had its air corridor reserved under FAA regulations." Its possiple FSX and XP use a very old database. Rob
July 19, 201213 yr The second airport is Grumman Bethpage. But as of the early 2000s it was no longer visible so the runway should not be depicted in FSX. http://www.airfields-freeman.com/NY/Airfields_NY_LongIsC.htm#Bethpage
