June 2, 200422 yr Hi allI wonder if anybody can kindly explain to me the Vcockpit windows like Vcockpit01, 02, etc in the panel.cfg file.I understand the numbered and fixed Windows in the 2d panel. For example, I notice that some a/c only use one Vcockpit section - others use multiple ones. But I can't see any difference between the a/c that use one Vcockpit section and those that have multiples. The VC is a continuous experience so what are the multiple sections for? Also I notice that some Vcockpit sections have different sizes as in size=1024,1024 or size=512,512. Also the pixel size (which I understand relates to the clarity of the VC gauges) vary. Sometimes the pixel sizes equate to the sizes and other times they are a larger number. Thanks Barry
June 2, 200422 yr Barry,Good questions :-)Each vcockpit section represents a virtual panel, or projection screen for the virtual gauges to be displayed. This projection screen sits just slightly off the panel background surface. The AC500 as an example uses several, one for the pilot's panel, one for the center panel, one for the copilot, and two for the upper audio panel. There are others like the ecu console for the GPS and the overhead panel. The upside to using several is better clarity for gauges; the downside is the impact on frames per second. Tradeoffs. :-)The size parameter tells the sim the width/height size of the texture for each cockpit section. The pixels parameter states how many pixels to each texture width. The SDK recommends that ratio be 1:1.In a lower resolution texture for the panel, some find that by doubling the pixel size, they can get better clarity of gauges.Lastly, there are many methods for doing vcockpits and no general answer here will satisfy all the questions. :-)
