July 24, 201213 yr Have ugly water in Pacific NW. Land scenery looks fine and water at Sydney Australia is fine. Doesn't matter which plane I fly. It's a new FSX install' and it's been set up using Nick N's tips as a guide. No 3rd party scenery or traffic installed yet. Also no 3rd party weather programs running. Anybody know what might be going on here? Thanks, Ken B. Ken Boardman
July 24, 201213 yr I tried everything to duplicate this effect but couldn't. It appears some the water is having problems rendering properly which indicates settings are set too high. Do they finally render after a few minutes (put sim in pause mode)? Lower some settings or try renaming or deleting the FSX.cfg, restart FSX, and let the config rebuild. That fixes a lot of anomalies with FSX. I see at the top of your picture it states something like Wideserver is waiting for clients. This may be taking up the memory and your FSX settings are okay. Best regards, Jim
July 24, 201213 yr Author Thank you for responding Jim. Strange thing is that the anomaly only occurs in Seattle area. Which would perhaps make more sense if I'd given that area some special treatment (add-on scenery, etc). Flying around Sydney or Los Angeles with any aircraft >> no problem. I'll be beating on it again later today and will upload the solution (after I find it ~:) Best regards, Ken Ken Boardman
July 24, 201213 yr Author The problem may be gone now. I created a flight at LAX with C172. Took it for short flight there, landed and then moved the flight to Boeing Field Seattle via the "World" drop down menu. Took off and flew around Seattle without issue, landed and then saved the flight to replace the "diseased" one. Sure would be nice to know what caused the apparent corruption, but perhaps only Omar the Tron God will ever know. Best to all, Ken B. Ken Boardman
July 24, 201213 yr The problem may be gone now. Good to hear. Hopefully it will stay gone. Your system has the capability to run fsx well. Just looking at the photo above and see lots of boats/ships. What is the % you have this set at. It's shouldn't be higher than 10. It's a known fps hog from when fsx first came out but maybe the newer hardware tech can handle more now. Like I said earlier, it appears you system was having a hard time rendering that area and, with a lot of boats, maybe that created the lag. Best regards, Jim
July 25, 201213 yr Author Hi Jim, Got the Cars, Boats and Leisure craft at 10%. Most other settings are very near to what Nick N' recommends at the following links: http://www.simforums.com/forums/fsx-and-nhancer-settings-for-new-drivers-updated_topic36586.html (for EVGA's nVidia GTX480) http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html I used his settings two years ago when I did my initial FSX installation and they worked out great overall. And, I just got a total refresher ~:\ All's well for the moment ~:) Best regards, Ken Ken Boardman
July 25, 201213 yr Got the Cars, Boats and Leisure craft at 10%. I think those are good settings and probably ruined by theory of high settings. I see a lot of people trying to max things out and then saying they have bad graphics. Some get away with it and I think most don't unless they are computer "experts". Srdan Word Not Allowed here at AVSIM has another excellent hardware/software guide pinned at the Hardware forum. Just a couple of more suggestions: make sure your fsx HHD is defragged regularly. When FSX is first installed (and any addon like Acceleration) files are literally thrown all over the harddrive (you have to download one of those freeware defragmenters to see how badly a drive is fragmented after installing FSX - I was amazed) and this can slow down the rendering process as FSX has to go and find the appropriate textures to render. I don't defrag mine because I have the SSD but do defrag the mechanical HHD which contains a lot of scenery and stuff. I also clean out my registry and system at least once a week. It's amazing what a cleaning will do to keep your system running properly. Again, glad you back to flying over clear water. Best regards, Jim
