Featured Replies

What I would like to have is

3x monitors 27 inch 1920x1080 for fsx accelerator

on one grafic card gtx gainward 680 4000mb phanton

mobo gigabyte x79 4D5

8gbDDR3 1600 Quad channel

intelcore I7-3730K

NoctuaNH14 cooler for processor

etc

the questions I have are

1-could this system run smoothly fsx with orbix and VRS F/A18 hornet aircraft and heavy weather?

2-is the intel oc to 5.0 ghz with the cooler I mentioned?

In answer to your first question, I think you mean 3930k since you're talking about X79. I really wouldn't recommend that platform for ultimate FSX performance, since FSX doesn't really care about the number of cores, memory channels, or PCI-e lanes your system has, and that's exactly what the X79 platform delivers. You're better off, both in terms of performance and cost, going with a Z77 platform + i5 3570k or i7 3770k.

In answer to the second, if you want to overclock close to 5GHz you'll need to temporarily remove the heatspreader on the CPU and replace the stock thermal paste to deal with the temperatures created by overclocking that high. I run my 3770k @ 4.9GHz daily, 5GHz is doable but requires more voltage than I like to run long-term so I only do some benchmarks at that speed.
