July 26, 201213 yr I have been searching all over the internet for the proper new hardware for FSX. I have a general idea on what to get; however it seems like EVERYONE tells me something different. Oh, i'm getting a i7, "Oh, no, get a i5". Then I turn around, Im getting an i5, "No get an i7". I am lost. I also have price taken into consideration. I would like to keep it no more than $1,000. I have searched hundreds of deals, sites, everywhere you could think of. Everywhere I go, there seems to be a "better" option that I bring up that everyone says is a crappy deal and I could do better. Well, WHAT is better? I never know what to buy because I know there is some other place where I can get it cheaper. I have quote on quote "an idea" on what to get. i7 with a GTX 6- something 8 GB ram @4.2 ( or maybe better) Ghz. I have searched EVERYwhere for the same rig, but there are so many sites I don't know who's ripping me off, whos lying, who's not reliable, who could give me a better deal, bad performance and I'm fet up! What my goal is to do with FSX is to make quality simulation videos and upload them to youtube with good FPS. I know this type of topic has probably been posted 1,000 times, but please don't ignore. I need some serious advice from someone with experience. Thank you, Summer1
July 26, 201213 yr You would be best to post this in the AVSIM Hardware Forum. The best advice to give you is to get your information from the experts, like PC Magazine - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2404674,00.asp. There are numerous articles written regarding the differences between the i5/i7. I think the price is the biggest difference. Of course the i5 is cheaper. If you want a Cadillac/Mercedes though, get the i7. Go to Google.com and type in the search box 'what is the difference between the i5 and i7' and you'll find thousands more people recommending the i5 and thousands more saying the i7 is the best. For videos of FSX, both the i5 and i7 series will work. What you want to make sure you get is the K series of CPU's, like 2600K, 2800K, etc. That means the CPU is unlocked and you can increase the overclock to speeds around 5GHz. You'll need a system that has the proper cooling to accomplish that feat though and a better power supply, up near 1000KW or you might see occasional crashes. Good memory is also required and I think anything over 8 GB is too much as FSX uses about 4 GB and anything left over goes to system functions. Over in the Hardware Forum they have several articles about system building and what's best. I would strongly recommend you check that out. There's also an excellent article pinned at the top of the Hardware forum by Srdan Word Not Allowed the provides a guide for software and hardware for FSX plus some recommended settings for FSX and tweaks. Hope this helps. Best regards, Jim

You can't go wrong with SB or IB CPU's... Get a proper cooler, overclock P68/Z68/Z77 motherboard... GTX 560 (I know you want the 550)...
