"Flight Simulator was unable to load some aircraft or software ...."

Featured Replies

I have been using FS9 for several months and in that time have manually reinstalled it (when Drive Image messes up!) with all my addons (no mean task), for one reason or another (usually related to Windows XP, not FS), three or four times. I have just done so again but now I get a message on start up that some gauges cannot be loaded - FS9 has always loaded and used them before with no problem, so they are certainly compatible. These include ATC-WHM.gau, which I had used as the basis of a little clickable panel I had created for all my aircraft panels, showing the numbers 0-9 and allowing me to respond to ATC by clicking whatever number, instead of reaching over to the keyboard. I am really upset that it has disappeared!! Given that this gauge, and the others (less of a bother) always worked perfectly before, can anyone shed any light on why I now get this error message window (and which refuses to go away when you click on OK - it just loops continuously - very annoying!). Or maybe you know of another little gauge I can download that will do the same thing? Many thanks, Martin S.

Martin, wondering if you ever resolved your problem...I'm having a similar problems not with gauges not wanting to load (same error message)Randy ATaiwan

This message usually means that a required file (.DLL or such) was not found when the gauge was loaded.Make sure that any .DLLs that may have been added by an add-on program are present in your modules folder, and that they are not turned off in the fs9.cfg-Roy

I'm not sure what DLL files could be missing, or would even be required, but I'll have a look (even though I am not sure exactly what I am looking for at this stage!). How though are they' turned off' in the fs9.cfg file - and how do I 'turn them on' again? Thanks,Martin

Roy, I wasn't all that optimistic when I posted my reply half an hour ago - but the problem was easy to fix in the end. Thanks very much for the tip about dll files - that was in fact the problem in the end. Very luckily, amongst my various backups, I had an image file of an older installation of FS9 (in which I knew the gauges loaded fine), so I was able to go back to that and look for any dll files in the backup that weren't in my current modules folder. Sure enough, I didn't have FSSound.dll (how it escaped I've no idea!), so I simply copied it across from the backup file and now everything works fine. I'd spent quite some time (hours and hours in fact!) creating my panel ATC gauge, creating a background bitmap, and then configuring all the panel.cfg files in FS9 to show it, so I was a bit miffed I couldn't load it after I'd had to reinsatll FS9 a few weeks back! Many thanks again for the lead..Martin

Ah yes, the ubiquitous FSSound.dll. How well I know it. Glad I could point you in the right direction. As for turning modules on and off, I refer you to the FAQ :

Q) How do I disable the warning message on startup about non-compatible modules? A) Add the following lines to the fs9.cfg file{OldModules} (use brackets not braces - this forum does not display brackets)name of dll=1
changing the value to 0 will turn off the .dll
