Does aircraft exterior model affect while inside cockpit?

If you have an aircraft with a very complex exterior model such as NGX or Level-D, does it affect performance even while inside a cockpit view? I do all my flying from inside the cockpit and couldn't care less about going into spot view or taking nice screenshots of the airplane, so I was wondering if replacing the exterior model with a very simple one would help performance.

I remember back in the days, there was a box mod, which basically showed your airplane as a BOX when viewed from the outside and it helped performance, but I think that was for either FS2000 or FS9.

Any thoughts on this?

There would be no difference in the VC , they are seperate models with the exterior model not rendered in VC views.

If framerates are an issue in the VC , turn off aircraft shadows , this will remove the duplicated polys the shadows are generated on.

Ok, so in VC the exterior model is not rendered. That is exactly what I was hoping for! haha

How about in 2D cockpit view?
