June 13, 200421 yr Hi Tom,Just wanted to day that I think this idea of polls for rating MSFS products is really great! :D Hopefully it will blossom and evolve with your ideas and the thoughts/suggestions being given in here.>Hi Tom,>>How about these ideas to improve the "quality" of the results>so they are not biased by people who don't even have the>product.>>Instead of "asking" if they have the product, ask them to type>the third word following "something" from the installation>instructions.>>If you find "that word
June 13, 200421 yr My two cents on the B-200, after a couple of minor registration problems I love it. It has permantly replaced any flying with the Default King Air 350.By the way:Jan Rosenberg's turbine (Turbo) effects works fine with the B-200. It adds to the illusion of forward motion in spot view. Don't forget to push the "I" key. June 14, 200421 yr This is a good idea Tom, with several pitfalls in my opinion, to take care about as with any public poll: how do you ensure the population which has voted is representative of the customer base of the product? I've read even below 200 a threshold as number of users, but what about the sales volume during a time span? I mean in this particular case of the B200, the poll is out just shortly after the release of the product. How could the results above be representative of the customer base opinion given they may have (or may have not) sold that much licenses in a couple days? Also, some products are released with problems. Some of these are "patched" in a x.1 version.I also know other companies which are not only releasing "corrective" patch, but as importandly, are releasing regular enhancements through new upgrades during the life of the product (well in this case, the product life is rather long and the upgrades are free, even 2 years after initial release of v1.0). What about then having a poll probably done on v1.0, which, 6 month afterward, would not take in account what has been solved / enhanced in the product? If this information keeps being published, and more dramatically, keeps being cached without being updated on major web search engines, how typical the poll would be reflecting the actual and current customer base opinion and in turn, would be of little use for the customer?I think that given the nature and uniqueness of each product (it is not like polling the users of ATI then NVIDIA cards which roughly do the same; it is polling customers of a Single Prop then customers of an airliner through a standard an comon set of questions) that free form opinion shared in the forum may be more appropriate somehow. It will always (if through a standard set of questions) turn to comparing apples to oranges, without taking in account each product specificities which are what can make in certain case what a customer is looking at. A quick example: lately on the general forum it was about a famous highly realistic and complex simulation of a 747 airliner. Some where complaining about the complexity and would have certainly rated badly the product in such a poll. However, in the free form forum way, many customers said that this is actually what they were looking for in such a product, complexity and authenticity and that in their opinion, this product for this features was excellent. So again, how do you ensure to have the most representative population voting for the product given the uniqueness of the product and its customer base?Hope this helps!
June 14, 200421 yr I love this feature, it's a great way to overall see how good a product is.I think for sure documentation should be added to the list. As for the 200, it has one of the best manuals I have seen. There will be some users he just go in and hit all bad or all excellent, that can't be stopped. However most will be honest and if you just look at the overall trend it should be fairly accurate.
