NZNI Stratford dawn departure & a change of destination Part 2 - Arrival in Raglan

Featured Replies

Well Raglan looks OK on the charts and the fuels OK. Just hope we're not too early for breakfast?

Well you can't miss it on that headland..

Even without any markings.

Looking good and no wind to speak of.

Well we made breakfast but damaged the tailwheel in the taxi back to the bridge.

I see on Google Earth there's some home grown machinery operating out of here.

Maybe I can cadge a lift?

Well after a long lazy day my ride's here. Hope it's not too much of a vomit comet after the old lady that got me here?

Apparently he's dropping me at Ardmore so it's a night in Auckland till the next leg.

It's a great model but nearly pranged it twice due to lack of trim on take off and landing at "out of use 07" at Ardmore! The telegraph poles across the approach signalled my bad but the response of the truboprop in hopping over them reminded me that turboprops are JETS .....NOT props.

The DH80 model is an absolute beaut, full of classic trim pluss a number of interesting skins. It flies like a dream, if a rather sedate one.

Need to plan the next leg and maybe settle for something that'll cruise at FL10 for the next leg so I can show what the scenery looks like at that level.

Need to check out floatplane bases too because I've a hanger full of different types I've not flown much.

So far the biggest challenge for a Low and Slow fan like me is actually finding (without cheating) these barely or even unmarked grass strips amidst all this grass!!!

Credit to the developer the strips are pretty convincing with the subtlest shading and wear for the actual strips. ONE BAD was that taxing back at RAGLAN the Moth was grabbed by the FSX "quicksand/grass" and sunk backwards into the ground. Still at least it didn't count as a crash.
