Eclipse 500 - far too heavy?

Featured Replies

I downloaded the file entitled "Gmax Makemodel FS9 Eclipse 500 Update" the other day, presuming it's the most recent version.Went to fly it last night and discovered that the aircraft is over its maximum allowed weight unless you load only 6% fuel and ZERO payload!Any suggestions on how I correct this? Thanks in advance.

Change the weight and balance section in the aircraft.cfg to read like this and it should be possible to get a usable load from the plane. The original version has the empty weight almost at the max gross weight which makes it impossible to put in a decent load.{WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE} (Change the {} to brackets)max_gross_weight = 5680.0empty_weight = 3390.0reference_datum_position = 33.500, 0.000, 0.000empty_weight_CG_position = -33.000, 0.000, 0.000max_number_of_stations = 10station_load.0 = "170, -17.0, -1.2, 0.0, Pilot"station_load.1 = "170, -17.0, 1.2, 0.0, Co-Pilot"station_load.2 = "170, -22.5, -1.2, 0.0, Pax 1"station_load.3 = "170, -22.5, 1.2, 0.0, Pax 2"station_load.4 = "170, -25.5, -1.2, 0.0, Pax 3"station_load.5 = "170, -25.5, 1.2, 0.0, Pax 4"station_load.6 = " 50, -40.0, 0.0, 0.0, Bags";Moments of Inertiaempty_weight_pitch_MOI = 27656.000empty_weight_roll_MOI = 17856.000empty_weight_yaw_MOI = 44475.000empty_weight_coupled_MOI = 0.000CG_forward_limit= -0.750CG_aft_limit= 1.000

Cheers, will do that. It looks like a decent plane otherwise.

Maybe the aircraft model is too realistic?(sorry, couldn't resist) :-badteeth --Machdiamond

The author of this package took several liberties with the design of the Eclipse.First, he lists the Eclipse as holding six to eight pax. It can fit six pax in a squeeze, more typical config is five pax. Thus if you pan around the cabin, it's too large for the aircraft being modelled.Visually, he did an outstanding job with the Eclipse, but the scaling is way off. The Eclipse is a small jet, but the FS2004 model exceeds the Eclipse in size in all dimensions. Issues of scale however are really only an issue when on the ground. In the flight levels it doesn't matter whether an aircraft is 60 ft long or 600...I'm glad this author gave us the Eclipse--I hope we see more from Fuel Labs... I emailed the author with the suggestions regarding scaling and pax loadout, but sorry to say it was too late in development for him to change it--but he gave a very graceful reply and sounds like a very good designer in terms of goals...I'm a huge fan of the Eclipse, btw....More can be found at www.eclipseaviation.com-JohnEdit: In case you note on Eclipse's site that visually, Fuel Labs' model doesn't match the Eclipse, the Eclipse went through a design change after its first few test flights. The Fuel Labs model matches the Eclipse as it should appear in production. Abacus also had a model of the original Eclipse for sale, but had to pull it due to some issues. It was one Abacus model which I thought was outstanding--in its time I thought it among the best payware aircraft out there and it was designed by FSDS master Dave Eckert.
