HD Space Used by FSGenesis Mesh / Landclass Files?

Featured Replies

I'm wondering about getting some of Justin's mesh and landclass products. When the executable installs the files, does anyone know how much HD space is required? The .exe files look really large, and I'm sure that there's some compression within them. Thanks for any info,Bruce.

Hi Bruce,The landcass is a pretty small file, v1.07a takes up 2.06 MB's. I have the FSGenesis Mesh installed for the entire Continental US. Looks to me like it takes up about 2.36 GB's.Hope that helps,Jim

Hi guys, Thanks for the tip; I've been wondering the same thing.Mike

Bruce,I'm sure Justin can give you a more precise answer. But I have the US West Coast, Rockies, and Appalachians installed from CDs, and it's taking up 1.44 GB. The landclass files are of minimal size.John

Thanks, Jim and John. Much appreciated.Bruce.

Hey Bruce, I answered this question over at FSG's forum, but seeing the responses here, may have missed your actual question.I currently have every mesh file Justin has published (except the earlier ones that are no longer required. That means I'm covering North and South America, Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and a large chunk of Asia at the moment. This takes 9.83GB of space. With the rest of Asia, all of Africa and all of the Oceania stuff remaining I'd assume another 3 to 4 GB to go ;)Oh yeah, only North America is at 38.2 meters(and a few small 9.6 meter spots). The rest are at 76.4 meters -- for the moment. Justin would be able to give ya a more accurate volume assessment. -------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember what

Does anyone have any feedback on the new mesh scenery done by Raimondo Taburet? The Usa 38.2 m terrain - wich also includes Alaska wich was designed from the 60 m usgs elevation models - is no more and no less than FSG in term of quality - as the mesh is designed exactly from the identical elevation models - no more no less - The only difference is the price: my is freeware and it will be the whole set freeware - at no price at all - at the same quality of FSG - taking in consideration that at present i'm design the scenery and the usgs is continuosly updating and improving the elevation models - i let you take the final though about that.not as good as FSGenesis but you save on diskspace and download time.not necessary true - as explained above - and it can be proved - you can download and test the mesh. With all respect - it puzzle me - now and than - that a bunch of simmers - using this forum - support payware - rather than freeware on some issues - indeed as the case of usa 38.2 m sets - where we can enjoy good quality terrain - free technical support at no cost whatsoever - and above all exactly the same quality as payware packages - + i have yet to see a Freeware Alaska designed from the 60 m usgs dem - .raimondo

Hi Racarton;actually my message was intended to the other place - where it says - Raimondo Taburets' mesh - i posted here by mistake! and could not edit/cancel as time was expired - Netherless - i respect whoever does good scenery - and those who are learning the trade - i can not see why not!Howewer the message above - is more related to technicalities of mesh - rather than - customers support - loyalty etc etc - The quality of mesh designed with usgs Ned 30 m - if the designer knows what he/she is doing - it will be inevitably exactly the same for all the mesh produced with those datas - full stop! it does not matter what are you telling to others - the mesh produced by fsg - me - Steve - with data Ned 30 m - is the same!that is the point i intend to alight - the rest do not bother me - ray
