Allow me to recommend a small addittion to your excellent guide. Apart from the FSX folder in C:\....AppData\Roaming...etc., which you advise to back-up, there is also an FSX folder in C:\AppDataLocal\Microsoft (Shaders and Shaders10). As Steve explains in his readme, his 'fix' makes changes in at least one file located in the latter folder. It therefore seems wise to back-up that folder as well, in case anyone would like to revert to DX9.

Aaaah! Thanks for the input, Rene..... however - the change we have to make in order to use Steve's DX10 fix is to the \General folder inside the main folder in the FSX root folder. That folder - in \Local - is only a cached copy.

 

Any changes - such as Steve's DX10- fix, or Bojote's Shaders version 3.0 fix - is done in the FSX_Root\ShadersHLSL\ folder. Once the change is made, we need to delete the respective cache folder in the user's \Local\ system.

Hey, Rene! It's ok, man! I had a couple of telnet sessions going on some servers a few years back, and I inadvertently shut down a main production server........ nobody noticed....

Also, in a serious error of judgement I also spouted off here when I shouldn't have, just a few weeks back. Tom let me off lightly.. Folks do it all the time.. part of life, my friend. You were trying to help, and for that you have my thanks, so any time - feel free - jump in and help again!
