Carenado Baron 58 - Stall fix

Featured Replies

Hi Guys not sure I have posted in the right section or not I have recenetly purchased the Baron 58 and experienced the dreaded stall when attempting to climb at anything about 600fpm or there abouts, I have played with mixtures, prop rpm etc no difference, also when decending to save the stall this seems to be an issue as well engine seems to get into a stall and very hard to get it out of that stall. I have read in the thread below that a forum member ** bstolle ** may have had a fix for this but he is now an inactive member, could someone please PM me or point me in the direction of a fix/download for this as other than that, I love this plane it truly is a thing of beauty, just curious as to why Carenado would release a new D/L for both FSX and P3D when this plane has a very obvious bug, but hopefully this is an easy fix

Thanks for reply there are 2 patches when I login to My Account but it says if you downloaded aircraft after 31 March 11 you dont need this patch and I think the other patch dosnt mention the I am going to try both patches and they are specifically looking for FSX install as well, I dont think these are the fixes for the stall as the link I put in my first post and others I have read have clearly stated the patches released by Carenado addressed other issues but not the stalling issue. plus these are official patches not optional patches that they have listed on the Updates page for other planes. I am hoping the patches fix it but not that hopefull.

Released Mar 31 2011, 1530 GMT

- Improves turn coordinator operation (red flag disappear during regular operation).

- Adds a new camera for fuel tank selector.

- Fixes the Yaw Damper in the autopilot.

- Adjusts flight director animation.

- Fixes the autopilot increase/decrease pitch feature.

- Calibrates EGT for a better readout.

- Improves several visual elements of the HSI.

- Corrects text in KLM texture.

You don’t need this Service Pack if you download the aircraft after Mar 31, 2011 at 1530 GMT.

Well what do you know the first patch I listed fixed it I will test more this evening and update this post but it looks like its fixed no longer dropping like stone when it stalls and climbs straight through to 4000ft no probs. event though it clearly says this update is not needed if you d/l after 31/03/11 it looks like the latest downloads of this plane might still have this same issue, I D/L from Carenado official site so may not have issues on other 3rd party sites possibly, so for the record anyone with P3D or possibly FSX (not sure I dont have it installed) if you have the stalling issue go to http://www.carenado....p?accion=update and D/L the service pack B58 FSX - Service Pack 20110503

As mentioned I will do more testing at other airfields I had the issues at to be sure its gone but so far 2 different airfields no probs also there was a taxi issue where it was very difficult to get it to taxi in a straight line this also seems to be much better thanks again HawkDsl you're a legend I would never have tried this otherwise, and I did see the updates but ignored when I read the part about don't bother if D/L after 31/03

Ok it appears I got a little too excited too quickly the issue is still present although it took me a approx a 2 hour flight to realise, I canty see it being a fault due to engine management as all guages are pretty much perfect, what happened this time I came acroos a little bit of turbulance in the form of a group of fairly small clouds and punched through failry quickly but this was a enough to wash some speed of the engine and and this starts the process of what appears to be out of fuel as no amount reving the throttle or moving other engine management levers will save you only possible way is be up high enough to freefall at near on max speed.

So again I ask is there a fix for this that some kind soul an PM,

You might try asking Bstolle in a PM here. He's very helpfull, and may be able to zip you the fix.

One thing about clouds high up. The carbs will ice up fast. Even though the plane has a carb heat switch, toggling it in the VC wont work, you still need to hit the "H" key. The switch will move in the VC, but for whatever reason, only the "H" key has the magic powers.

It's a great plane. I fly it allot.

Thanks 'HawkDsl' I had no idea about this "H" key I was flicking the De-Icing switches not knowing what they all did but flicked them all on. I think you have nailed it as mentioned 2 3/4 flights no issues yet I was flying from Vagar (Faroe Islands) to Egilsstaoir (Iceland) and about 60NM from Egilsstaoir I hit low/medium level thick clouds scatterered and then more frequent and this is when lost engine power, the dive seemed to help but you have to dive for about 1000ft at least before getting engine response, when I took off from Vagar the skys were clear so makes sense, when it happens it was like the engine has run out of fuel as no response which I am guessing is what happens when icing up? The other reason I think you are on to something here I use REX essential and I tried this same flight the other night but departing from Vagar it was raining heavy strong wings and extemely thick clouds and I couldnt get it above 3000ft without stalling and crashed a few times not that long after take off while trying to climb to 4000ft.

I am very green in regards to flight sims is the carb heat switch something that you only turn on when flying through clunds or if itleft on when for whole flight etc? I will test again this evening and report back

yea, sounds like you are getting classic carb icing. Don't feel bad, it happens in the real world too. If you get into clouds, and you start to lose power, hit the "H" key, and all will be well. As you climb you'll have to adjust mixture (red levers) via the EGT gauge, or you can just set FSX to auto-mixture. Depending on how much moisture is in the air, you can still get icing even without clouds around.

In RW flight, you would turn on heat for pitot, fuel vents, and windshield before take off... but would turn all off after landing to prevent burning up the heater elements.

that was definately it, thanks a heap :) I had attempted the flight mentioned above 4 times in an Around The World Challenge Im have entered and I have crashed all 4 times due to this :(, last night was within 40NM after about 2 hours of flying once I hit the clouds that was it but didnt have the altitude to save it.

Also on another not I contacted Carenado support through their site about this about 12hours before posting in AVSim and I got a reply last night with Bernt Stolle's fix which is offically approved by them so awesome response time, and I think is in that update on their site and possibly in the original D/L as well not sure now? So all this thinking was a fault with the plane was actually Icing and in the end was built in realism :) thanks again HawkDsI

built in realism

No problem, glad to help TMan.
