June 30, 200421 yr Hello,Is it possible to convert Ron Ackerley's KMSP, designed originally for FS2000, for use in FS2004? Thanks for any help and feedback.Don
June 30, 200421 yr I used it directly but be sure to get the update, also FS2K to give you some choices on scenery elements, polygon reduction for performance, and other issues. His scenery did not include the new terminal but by not using the exclude the additional buildings come through. His taxiways do not mesh with FS9, so I also found a detailed KMSP AFCAD2 on flightsim and then used AFCAD2 to make taxiway adjustments so the AI and I follow the same paths. I think the author of the one I use is Chris Reuter, check flightsim FS9 gateways scenery. Realistic parking assignments are included.Traffic except for FedEx and UPS is from UT2. The cargo AIs were downloaded from flightsim. The UT KMSP AFCAD is renamed so confusion does not happen with Chris's AFCAD.I first used Ron's KMSP in FS2K2 but it works in FS9 with a fairly medium high scenery detail setting to see all the gates.Be sure to check out the night scenes. They are great.I live in this area and the surrounding roads/highways/access roads with moving vehicles are nicely done.
June 30, 200421 yr Thanks! A lot of good infomation, I'll give it a try. One question though, I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say to also get "FS2K to give you some choices on scenery elements, polygon reduction for performance, and other issues." Could you please elaborate?Don
June 30, 200421 yr My mistake. There are two zips related to the scenery in the FS2000 Scenery area on Flightsim.Com. The first is the origininal KMSPAirport.zip (check name). The second is an upgrade for it. If you search that file directory by author name, it will come up.The second version had some fixes but also split the scenery up into several .bgl files with associated textures. In the update readme it explains that the scenery detail (polygon count) was reduced in the main bgl, and at your discretion you can add other bgls in the set that will add more objects, such as airport fences, some lighting, and additional tree sets. The number of bgl files you place in the KMSP scenery folder besides the mandatory ones will increase the number of detailed objects and affect FS performance. This method allows you to run your scenery detail slider quite high for overall global scenery effect but for this scenery allows you to determine complexity independantly according to your system performance.I wish a lot of designers of detailed scenery would use this method for airports. Is this clearer?Just search by author name and both should show up. I don't have the upgrade file handy right now.
