October 8, 201213 yr Hi A manual says "A wind of 062 degrees with 11 knots results in a headwind component of 2 knots. So enter 0/HD2 into LS2R etc ..." 1. How to get the 2 knots? 2. Is OAT that should be inserted on FMS/FMGC/FMC the one we can get from ATIS? 3. Is it correct that 062/11 means wind direction is 62 and the speed is 11 knots? Thanks
October 8, 201213 yr 1) You have to figure the headwind component. I have a few rough formulas I use on the fly in real life, but >>this<< calculator seems to be more accurate. Enter the runway heading, wind direction, and speed in knots for that calculator. 2) I assume you're referring to the takeoff data entry page for OAT, regardless of the add-on. I typically just use the temp given on the EICAS screen, but ATIS will be the same. Yes. (I'm not touching de-rating...) 3) Yes, that example would be correct. For future reference, ATIS/Tower gives wind in magnetic heading. METARs and Winds Aloft data are given in true heading. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

But, they don't give the pilot the instinctive feel apparent in real life. Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
