Altitude winds

Featured Replies

It seems that there is yet a big problem with altitude winds (for the airliners). If this problem can't be resolved,

is there a possibility of putting an option so that the user choose himself the wind in altitude

where he want to fly after having consulted the map of winds at the altitude of cruise?

This has been corrected in version 2.25, give it a try and report back if there is still a problem.

It is a lot easier to try the beta versions now since you just have to download the zip file, an uninstall of the previous version is not necessary.

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. I installed the new version this evening and I will try it tomorrow.

G

I'm running 2.25 now and the problem persists. FL360 between HESH and LPPT, getting 38kts headwind and sometimes i feel the shake on the plane (it just happened now as i type). Wind seems to go way below 38kts then restores itself to 38 (in this case), causing a temporary overspeed, respective alarm and the violent shake. Flying CS's 767 now but happens on all A/C.

On the funny side, it is normal to feel a shake on a real aircraft because of wind or turbulence but this is too much, i would just pee myself

Ok, thanks for the feedback. Are you using FSUIPC to smooth winds? How often are you updating your weather? Are you using the Affinity addon?

Can you check nothing else is altering the winds, e.g. check you are not downloading the real time winds thought FSX.

Cheers

Cheryl

Hello,

Weather through FSX should be disabled. I have it running with the "Clear Skies" theme like i used before with other engines. FSUIPC is not smoothing winds (tried that too to no avail, then disabled it again). I don't know what's the affinity addon, so i guess i'm not using it?

Update rate is default which is 30 minutes or 55km.

When you have the problem again could you email us your c:\OpusFSX\Themes\OpusWeather.txt file then we could test it here.

We are thinking of introducing a global winds option for systems that have this wind shift problem at high altitudes.

Thanks

Cheryl

For now i went back to 2.24 but i'll install the beta and make a few flights.

Does 2.24 entirely solve the wind shift problem for you?

The majority of our users either don't have the wind shift problem or it happens that quickly that it doesn't cause a problem with the aircraft. I would really like to find out what it is about your setup that is causing the problem. I do know that certain aircraft sims are more suseptable. Do you have a lot of addons installed, I wonder if something like that is perhaps the problem?

Thanks

Cheryl

With 2.24 i have no issues at all, this started happening with 2.25. With 2.27 i even got "cannot find theme" errors.

As for addons, i have MANY airports and more than 20 types of airplanes but most don't run plugins. The things i run you can call addons are IvAP (IVAO online client), OpusFSX, FSUIPC and 2 or 3 manufacturer's DLLs (PMDG/Captain Sim/Eaglesoft, etc). IvAP has its own weather generator but that's disabled for sure.

Thanks for the information. Not sure why v2.24 would be any different but you could try using that and see if you get the problem again. Other users having wind shift problems at altitude have reported v2.27 has been rock steady for them.

The 'cannot find theme' error is probably because you saved an opus weather theme with the flight and it no longer exists, try saving the flight with a standard FSX theme instead.

This happened enroute. Stopped happening when i installed 2.24 once again.

Hi Nuno

I hear you ... I had removed the OpusWeather file from the simulator's Weather/themes folder ready for a future upgrade, but I am now going to implement the upgrade differently so I will leave the OpusWeather file there. That way when you upgrade in the future you won't experience the same problem.

Happy flying.

Stephen
