Olbia X Released!

Featured Replies

I was very surprised to hear that someone (especially Aerosoft) is working on Olbia for FSX. It's one of those smaller airports I was really waiting for and never expected to see in FSX, especially after ISD seems to have vanished from the scenery development a few years ago.

Hearing of the release yesterday I immediately purchased the scenery but to be honest I am a bit ambivalent after the first short flights I have done around the airport.

Despite other Aerosoft airports I do own, Olbia doesn't come with AESlite, which is not essential for me but in my opinion adds a lot to such small sceneries. At least there are airport service vehicles driving around the apron.

The design of the airport buildings looks pretty good to my eyes and like I have them on my mind. Unfortunately the textures look a bit pixilated and plain in some areas, maybe I just got spoiled by other developers.

Two positive aspects are that the frames seem to be very good in FSX - at least on my rig - and that nearby points of interest like the Auchan supermarket, the harbor (incl. ferries) and other buildings are included. This adds to the 'Olbia feeling' when approaching the airport from the seaside. By the way the Jetways are operable for those of you who use GSX.

On the other hand, I am very disappointed by the quality of the aerial image surrounding the airport scenery and the integration of the add-on into the default Sardegna scenery. Seriously, the default Sardegna doesn't look very good in FSX but I think this can be done better. Regarding the aerial image in my eyes it's very pixilated and of poor quality other developers have proven that they can do a lot better and that's what I'd expect of 21 Euro add-on.

The transition between the airport add-on and the default Sardegna scenery is pretty harsh, you can clearly see where the grass green image goes over to the desert textures of FSX. This is really a downside in my opinion, Sardegna is much larger than the Balearic islands but Sim-Wings has done much better with their products, but these are probably hard to compare. Heraklion handles that transition pretty good.

I don’t want to go into further detail because I have to test it more deeply but I wouldn’t purchase the product because of the scenery, it’s definitely not on par with comparable products like Corfu, Heraklion etc.

BUT…if you like Olbia, like I do, I’d go for it. There are actually no alternates, so before not flying to Olbia at all, Aerosoft’s version is the way to go.

Anyway, 21 Euros is a very high price for such a quality and compared to others. With my experience to Aerosoft’s product handling my expectations to see major improvements to the add-on are rather on the low-end.

Ladies and gentlemen, your input please!

Thank you so much for your review!! You said the Jetways work with GSX......I have never seen ANY Jetways work in GSX. Is that normal?

You are welcome!

The Jetways oprate the normal way by using CTRL + J. It's not directly connected with GSX but interesting for GSX users. Aerosoft's products normally tend to support their in-house AES product and come with static jetways only.

Nothing Olbia X and GSX specific, sorry!
