July 9, 200421 yr Love my CH rudder pedals and yoke, but find that there is noise on the TOE BRAKE CHANNELS that gives a false short transitory signal, even with my feet held as steady as I can.I see this clearly with the groundhandling gauges. Is there some way to adjust this out? I fiddled with rudder settings but wasn't successful in fixing this. I do have registered FSUIPC, but not sure exactly what to do there.* OrestOrest SkrypuchCYFD - Canada Orest Skrypuch President & CEO, UVA www.united-virtual.com
July 10, 200421 yr In FSUIPC on a loaded flight, open it from the FS menu bar (can't recall the menu title but it is either modules or plug-ins and click on FSUIPC. Select I think the technical tab page and activate the checks on spike elimination for the axies you wish. I usually choose all.To check for actual control noise, if you go to the joystick tab and the select the axis, you can watch the values for the axis in question and see if they bounce with your feet and hands off. You can also work the axis to see if the numbers change relatively smoothly. This way, the aircraft model response is removed from the control check just in case there is a problem there. I mention this because you state you are getting info from gauges. This way you are checking before the gauge response.Check out the user's guide to insure I'm passing on the correct info.
July 10, 200421 yr Thanks much!I'm off to try that! Orest Skrypuch President & CEO, UVA www.united-virtual.com
July 10, 200421 yr If nothing else fixes the problem you may have a bad potentiometer. This is fairly common in rudder pedals because being placed on the floor exposes them to dust and grit. You can probably get a replacement at Radio Shack. The important specs are maximun resistance and whether it is linear or non linear; I think linear is required. Oh, and size matters. It has to fit where the old one was.David
July 10, 200421 yr Believe it or not, you can also take the potentiometer apart and clean it. The biggest problem with the CH pedals is that the potentiometers are not manufactured correctly. 5 minutes and you can have them working instead of getting new ones.to clean them, just wipe off all the contact grease, and put some more on there, and then spread it with a cloth or paper towel. This is a silvery type conductive grease- probably similiar to the stuff you put on your CPU Heatsink. if it's spread pretty much evenly, the contacts will spread the rest out themselves. The problems with CH pedals seem to be the grease is not spread- it's lumped up at one side, and there are bare spots, so they work erratically- so just spread it around it will work fine. Just be careful bending the ears when you take the pot apart since you don't want to break it off. You've got nothing to lose- just be careful when taking the pedals apart not to pull any of the wires off (although you can just resolder them).I had the same problem many CH owners did, but did this and now they work flawlessy- no spiking.
