Meljet 747, FS2004 & Heading Bug Problem

Featured Replies

Hello.I'm hoping someone will be able to answer this for me.I have the meljet 747 installed in FS2004 and it's having a bit of a problem when the autopilot is turned on. It used to work fine and nothing has been changed with this aircraft. The problem is that the aircraft will not turn when using the heading bug. It will climb, descend & maintain altitude okay, it's just turning. When the heading bug is moved the aircraft will bank but not turn. It's as if the rudder isn't working. It seems to fly fine when the autopilot is off however.I don't understand it because it used to work in FS2004. It just hasn't been flown in quite awhile.I thought maybe something was wrong panel wise so I put in another and it acts the same way.Has anyone else seen this with the Meljet 747 and know the possible solution? Thanks very much!!!

I fly the MelJet 747-400 a lot and never had any problems although in other version of FS, I DID have such a problem once in a while (but not with MelJet 747s). Do you use rudder pedals? Have you turned the HDG button ON? Are you flying from a corrupted saved situation? What else....What 747 are you flying -- type, airline, version, etc.JS

CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96

FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.

I'm not sure how any of that matters, but okay...What type? Meljet 747Airline? A United repaint.Version? No idea. Whatever was the latest as of a year ago or so.Pedals? Yes. CH USB yoke & pedals.Heading on? Yes. As I said, when the heading bug is moved, the plane will bank. It just will not turn. It basically flies straight and level but banked to one side or the other (depending on which direction the heading bug is moved). Not flying from any saved situation. While this is going on I can change aircraft to anything else and it works fine. Switch back to the Meljet 747 and the problem comes back.

Try switching on the auto-rudder (or is it called auto coordination?) in FS9 (i.e., don't use the rudder pedals for a while) and see if this helps to turn the a/c when AP on and HDG on as well. Ensure that when you do this, you do a warm or a cold reboot in order to clear the RAM and FS9 completely. CH rudder pedals can do funny things to some a/c. I used them for 2 years and had a lot of issues with them although I loved 'em when they worked right!Would you like to email me the cfg file for your MelJet to examine? If so, I am [email protected] back with results and I'll see if I can think of anything else.JS

I've tried everything and no go. I have even downloaded new files from the library that is the MelJet 747 (megapack among others) and it still doesn't work. As soon as I switch to any other plane it turns fine. Switch back to the MelJet 747 and it doesn't work again.

I know this doesn't help but: what you're experiencing makes no sense at all. If it's not a hardware issue, and it's not an a/c file issue, then what can it be....?Are you loading a corrupted file for the aircraft ?If not, I have observed that when autocoordination is switched off on the MJ 744 model, you need to nurse the rudder even when it's on AP because the turning radius is huge otherwise.I am sorry about this because I use the MJ extensively and it flies superbly. I've tweaked it in places and it's the best 744 I ever had in my fleet of 7 years simming.JS

Well, I don't know what else to say. It doesn't work. And, it doesn't work on two different systems. It also makes no difference if autocoordination is on or off. It does the same thing either way.

Hmm, this may be the end of this thread. If you think of anything else or specific, post again. Sorry can't be of more help this time round.JS
