October 31, 201213 yr Hi All, First things first, I love Opus. I've had zero problems with the software since installing and that includes the camera portion. I thought I would bring this to people's attention and get some feedback on why wx didn't load correctly last night. I did a flight in the PMDG Jetstream from KIAD-KBGM. Weather leaving IAD was great, IMC shown correctly. On my approach to BGM weather was mostly clear till I loaded the weather manually via the drop down menu. See the approach plate below. I made it as far as EDDER at down to about 4500 feet in basically clear wx. I came off the ITH VOR so I was in the area for a while and wasn't moving that quickly, I slowed to 170IAS shortly after ITH. Once I clicked on the load dynamic wx in the drop down, the wx changed right away and I broke out at about 2500, METAR was showing OVC at 2300. I'm not concerned by breaking out 200 feet higher than reported. I haven't experienced weather not loading and I've had the software for several weeks now. Should I just chalk this up to a mis-communication between Opus and FSX? Please understand I'm not attacking/bashing in any way. Just curious as to why it may have happened. Keep up the good work Steve and Cheryl!!! Tim
October 31, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Tim, Assuming your Internet connection was ok, the weather refresh rate was appropriate, the BGM METAR was available from NOAA, and you hadn't selected to import a METAR text file then there is no reason why the weather shouldn't update automatically. When was it due to do the next update? If you come across any anomalies relating to the Live Weather Engine (LWE) you would like us to check out then please use either the following or alternate procedure listed below ... 1. Pause the sim and immediately take a copy of your c:\OpusFSX\Themes\OpusWeather.txt file. This file contains all the downloaded METARs used to construct your weather grid. I am able to import these same METARs using the 'Import METAR Data From File' option within the weather dialog, and hence recreate your exact wearther. Albeit using different cloud and sky textures. 2. Make a note of your Dynamic Weather Settings in the Weather dialog. Disabled Cirrus, fog efects, mist effects, max surface vis setting, refresh rate and distance etc. 3. Make a note of where you are flying, the current weather grid covers and area of 300 x 300 miles and the weather is very localised and detailed. It is not like we can just take off anywhere in this grid and see the same as you saw. If you are not sure at least let me know what airport you took off from, what direction you was heading and approximately how far you had flown. 4. Email me all the above details and accompanying OpusWeather.txt file, accompanied with a screen shot if you can, but a description will do fine. [email protected] Of course please make sure you have disabled any other weather engines and in addition disabled/removed all their visibility and fog effects. Alternate Reporting Method ... If you are on the ground at an airport then it is perfectly acceptable to send just or post the nearest METAR statement which is most likely the airport's own weather report. Regards Cheryl
