November 8, 201213 yr Anyone tried one with FSX? For those who haven't heard about them, they're similar to an SSD but can't be used as a drive, they act as a cache for the boot hard drive. They come in 30/45/60GB sizes, and are not too costly, UK prices for the 60GB on amazon £56 inc post. The on-line review are impressive, especially boot-up times. But FSX is a strange beast, and what works well with modern software doesn't necessarily work well with FSX. But be nice to know if anyone's tried it?

November 9, 201213 yr What is it you're after in FSX by using a cache drive? If you read http://forum.avsim.net/topic/383881-how-different-hdds-and-ssds-performs-with-fsx/ you can see what impact SSDs and HDDs have on FSX. The cache drive will help with boot times and starting some frequently used programs in Windows, but there's no way it'll cache all your FSX install to give you all the benefits there. It won't give you the benefits of a lot faster install times in windows either. Prices on proper SSDs have fallen sharply the last 6 months so I'd go down that route.
November 10, 201213 yr Author Thanks 340, that's what I really wanted to know. I already run Win7 and FSX from a 240GB SSD, but thought maybe this might be a way of gaining a few FPS for not much cost, but sounds like it's not the case.
