new chart source for areas outside USA (ONCs and TPCs)

Featured Replies

This morning while looking for online versions of the Low-Altitude Enroute series (which I didn't find), I stumbled onto something called the Raster Roamer http://geoengine.nga.mil/geospatial/SW_TOO.../rast_roam.html, which is maintained by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. This is the U.S. agency that creates basic aeronautical charts for areas not covered by NACO (e.g., all of Asia). There are two levels of chart: Operational Navigation Charts (ONCs) and Tactical Pilotage Charts (TPCs). ONCs are made to a scale of 1:1,000,000 (same as WACs). TPCs are made to a scale of 1:500,000 (same as VFR sectionals). These charts are NOT updated on a regular basis, and therefore do not include radio frequencies. But you can get that information from the GPS or map view. To get started, select "Desire Product Level" (i.e., map scale) and scroll down to the world map. Click on the location you want to see and adjust from there. The Raster Roamer is a complicated map browser. It's got 5 levels of zoom, and you can download images in all kinds of formats. I haven't figured out how to download a region larger than the one that can be displayed on a single web page, but that may be possible too.

Wow, more here than I thought! Thank you, bojote, and thank you, Peter, for figuring out the extra comma.
