July 22, 200421 yr Hi,I have a problem with menus in FS9 cycling on and off while loading the selected menu item. Hard to explain clearly, but an example will help:When I Create a New Flight, after I go to the Airport menu and select the departure airport(and click okay), the whole menu flashes 3 or 4 times before returning to the Create a New Flight menu screen. The above "flashing while loading" behaviour also occurs when FS9 is first loading(is that why the title screen is called a "flash" screen? :-)). It happens with menus on the menu bar in windowed mode, as well, but here the screen goes black for a moment while the menu option is accessed. The above does not have any effect on flying the simulator per se, but it is annoying, and I would like to get rid of it, if possible.I thought this problem might be something to do with my video card, but it seems unlikely, as I have just bought a new machine and would expect the latest drivers to have been factory loaded(?). It would help if I mentioned the machine specs, so here they are:Dell Dimension Pentium 3GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9800 128 DDR, Audigy 2 sound card, 80GB HD. The above problem occurred on a clean install of FS9, although I have since added PMDG 737NG and assorted liveries.Sorry for the longwinded attempt at explanation! Hope someone can suggest a solution. Many thanks,Frank
July 22, 200421 yr Hi Frank,I also own a Dell with an ATI 9800xt. I had that problem and it is the drivers. I (and others) have found that the latest drivers are not necessarily the best. I am using driver version: 6.14.10.6404, dated 11/13/03. They are Dell drivers and not from the ATI site. These drivers have solved the flickering menu problem for me and I have found no need to update them. Hope this info works for you.Best Regards, Joe
July 22, 200421 yr Hi Joe,Many thanks for the advice!I'll look for the drivers on the Dell site and report results.Best wishes,Frank
July 22, 200421 yr I had that problem and corrected it by going to an other level of anti aliasing. I find I have that happen when set to 4, but not when set at 2. Perhaps give that a try.....Harry
July 22, 200421 yr Dell does not load the latest drivers. Get the official ATI Catalyst driver from the ATI site:http://www.ati.com/ ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
July 22, 200421 yr Thanks, Harry. At the moment, I have most everything set to the max (just to see what the machine is capable of :-)), so it's likely my anti-aliasing is at the highest setting. I'll try your suggestion as soon as I get home and let you know.Best wishes,Frank
July 23, 200421 yr Hi Craig,I notice I have 2 drivers installed for the ATI Radeon 9800 128 DDR Pro. One is AGP, the other is for PCI(Secondary). Since I'm assuming I have the AGP version, I'm thinking I may have room for two cards in the box? In any case, since I have to uninstall the driver before installing the Catalyst driver(so it says), I guess I only have to uninstall the AGP version? Thanks for your help,Frank
July 23, 200421 yr Hi again Harry,I'm not sure how to set anti-aliasing to a lower value, as you suggested, since it's just a box you tick on or off. Do I have to edit a config file or something?BR,Frank
July 24, 200421 yr Hi All,Just to say thank you to Craig, Harry and all who helped me solve my flickering menus problem when In FS. I downloaded the latest Catalyst drivers as suggested, and the problem is gone!As has been said many, many times, this forum is a really great resource!BR,Frank
July 24, 200421 yr I would first of all , set your AA within your video card settings, not in FS. Deselect AA in flightsim, and then go to your video card settings, trying the different levels from there. Hope this helps you out. I'll keep an eye on this thread!Harry
