FINALLY upgraded!

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I am considering reinstall everything FSX based but given that I've had poor performance in the past I want to check what FPS this system will give me...

core i5 2500k @ 4.2ghz

8GB ddr 3 ram @ 1333mhz

GTX 660ti 2gb

SSD

Will I get good fps with fsx, fsx acceleration, ngx 737, rex, utx, gex and World of AI? I know some people push their 2500ks much further but to be honest I dont want to go any further than 4.2 as I prefer to know I'm 100% stable permanently.

Will this upgrade offer very good performance?

Thanks

Congrats on the new build! You're going to get pretty good performance with that system and the video card. The usual frame killers still are problems like the reflections and shadows, but everything else you will just about be able to max out (not including water). That said, you should be pushing mid twenties (fps) or better in dense cities.

I guarantee this topic will be moved to the hardware forum-

And 2nd, I have similar specs to you, however mine is at 4.4 GHZ, and is extremely stable. I Highly recommend 4.4, as that's a pretty good number to go to.

Just remember, don't go crazy with the FSX sliders. I have mine on medium low settings, with Ai traffic at 17%, ALL other Ai traffic at 0%.

Play around a little with it, with my setup with the NGX with UTX, REX, GEX, OpusFSX, and Fsdreamteam KLAX at night parked at the gate, I usually get 24-31 FPS.

-Oh, and don't forget to tweak your FSX.cfg!

Yes, you will do fine with the 2500K and I think you might be able to push the GHz a little more depending on cooling. I think the 2500 is the best value for FSX on the market. If you can afford the 2600K, you will see a little bit more performance due to increased cache and it is pretty easy to clock to 4.7GHz but the 2500K will be fine. I run it's big brother, the 2700K at 4.7ghz and have no performance issues at all, not even a stutter.

Concerning memory, try to find 1600 with timings of 7x8x7x24. I use Mushkin but there are others.

I think the bottle next in your configuration is the video card. All the TI models are budget based cards. At this time, I do not know what to recommend for a video card other than what I am using, the GTX580. The 570 would be fine as well.

You will get the best advice there. I do not want to put myself out there as an expert but I know what works great for me and got my advice at the provided link.

Good luck,

Brad Rich
